>>He said the same thing on Hugh Hewitt the other day<<

Tony is too honest for there not to be some accuracy in what he is saying... but he knew the salary and he knows the long term earning potential that comes from being deep inside the White House - Pat Buchanan has ridden a speech writing gig in the Nixon White House for almost 40 years.

So it just doesn’t feel like the truth that he is leaving over the reduced salary for one year.

I think his eldest is a sophomore in high school the other two might be in their teens now.

If he is leaving for medical reasons, he might not want to have it speculated by the media that he is leaving to spend the rest of the time he has left with his family.

It probably wasn’t a salary reduction as much as it is the cost of raising a family in and around DC AND undergoing chemo.

I hope Tony will resume his radio and pundit career soon - he never left any doubt he loved it.

The loss of the White House is our gain in this instance!

I doubt he planned on another round of cancer treatments. His insurance may not cover all of his care and that adds up quickly.
If he wants to tell part of his reason for leaving and keep part to himself, that’s his business.

FYI: Buchanan returned to the White House in 1985, serving until 1987 as White House Communications Director for Ronald Reagan.

He said that at the outset he would stay until the money was an issue.

What he did not know what that he would have another round of cancer.

He said this past weekend on CSpan in a Q & A with Brian Lamb that he won’t die of this cancer and that his last chemo is today.

It’s worth looking for on the CSpan schedule as he was very candid about his condition, his job and his family.

I'm sorry but I believe Tony could no longer spew out the Bush doctrine and Bush's intentional ignoring of the Border problem which opened my eyes to his Globalistic view, "unforgivable"!

Bush is just like his daddy, no real commitment for the sovereignty of this country.

Bush has earned my disdain for his turning his back on the two Border Patrol agents whom he swore to protect in his oath of office.

Bush really is just a little man.

Pat was a pretty good newsman before writing speeches. I think he may have won a Pulitzer, when it meant something.

I think it is the medical bills. It is such a novel comment that I am inclined to believe it on face value. Consider how often we hear “spend more time with the family”.

I think Tony Snow is one of the if not THE best talent to bless that post at the Whitehouse.

I do not agree with his message all the time but I always have respected his brain.

Hopefully this means a up tick in the talent at FNC from the current decent into oprafication.

I believe him. If he was leaving for other reasons, salary would never be mentioned as you never hear salary as the lame excuse. You would hear “time with the family”, etc.

And, if a man does not know if he will live or not, with heavy medical expenses, he would feel he should be making as much as possible for the benefit of the three children should he be gone.

Tony is a fine man. Politics is not playing a part in this.
When you have problems like Tony has, you realize the things that are important.

I think Tony Snow is dying, sad and god bless. He is fighting a tough & lost battle. It has noting to do with money.
He has made the ultimate sacrifice to this country, family and the office of the President. He will be remindered as a SAINT, God love him. I hope all the President’s Men could all be like Tony!

Can we just take Tony at his word for now? He's earned that.

Maybe he knows more than we do - maybe he feels he doesn't have "long term earning potential" and wants to try to leave his family secure.

I hope you who are judging and second guessing this man who has shown his metal on all fronts aren't faced, one day, with the bills that pile up by the hundreds of thousands with cancer, along with the debilitating, horrific treatments, and then want to insure you leave your children safe, in case - for if you are one day so challenged, you just may remember your unjustified postulations.

Tony Snow's colon cancer has metastasized to his liver (Stage IV). The five year survival for Stage IV colon cancer is less than 5% and the median survival duration is 16.5 months.

Tony Snow's metastasis was diagnosed last March. In four and one half years, he will have a 95% statistical chance of being dead and, in 11 months, he will have a 50% chance of being dead.

"One year" may be the rest of Tony Snow's life and he needs to ensure the future of his children that may soon be without a father.

U.S. Grant used the last year of his life while dying of throat cancer to write the autobiography that supported his family financially after his death and Grant finished that autobiography just a few days before his death.
