Snow to leave White House before Bush Press secretary cites money as reason for departure The Associated Press Updated: 1:21 p.m. ET Aug 17, 2007
WASHINGTON - White House press secretary Tony Snow said Friday he'll leave sometime before the end of the Bush presidency because of financial pressures.
He declined to say when he would depart, but that, "I'm going to stay as long as I can."
The 52-year-old Snow, the father of three children, earns $168,000 as an assistant to the president but made considerably more as a conservative pundit and syndicated talk-show host on Fox News Radio. He was named press secretary on April 26, 2006.
The White House has been shaken by the resignations of some of President Bush's closest aides. Political strategist Karl Rove announced Monday that he would leave at the end of the month. Longtime Bush adviser Dan Bartlett left earlier this year and Andrew Card left earlier as Bush's chief of staff.
Bush's term ends on Jan. 20, 2009.
"I will not be able to make it to the end of this administration, just financially," Snow said. "This job has been such a pleasant surprise in how much I like it. I love it."

Thanks. I love the way inaccuracies are so promptly corrected on FR!
If he ends up sending all of his three kids to Ivy League colleges at once @40K/yr., that’s 120K down the drain before any other expenses and not considering any tax obligations. All of a sudden 168K/yr. begins to look like chump change.
In Washington DC, $186K/year will buy you what $50K will buy you in an average Texas city, for example.
Sure hope that is the reason, Good Luck Tony!!! Still praying for ya buddy!!!
On the bright side maybe we’ll get to hear him on “The Tony Snow Radio Show” again. Coming to you in 5-4-3-2-1...
Thanks SL!
God Bless Tony!
:-) You are welcome, maggief! Thank you for posting pictures of the Snowman himself!
Hope springs eternal, McGruff! I will own to being a little selfish here.
LOL
Okay a lot selfish.
Thanks, tol!
God Bless Tony!
The illness probably is racking up the doctor’s bills.
I don't know. I'm just going on what I know, maybe he did change his residency to VA.
I live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and am familiar with the St. Michael’s area.........part of the DelMarVa Peninsula that I have called home for the past 25 years.
St. Micheal’s is definitely a “high rent” area.
Same deterioration happened to Chertoff.
Wages for lying during the amnesty push. Bush put them in a wringer to try to pull off that scam.
I’m sure he’s thinking about his family.
If he only has a few years left to live, he can put enough away to take care of them with his former job.
Living in DC, 168k probably pays the rent and food but not much more.
$168,000 is only barely middle class in DC as far as real estate costs and other items.
Please, FRiends, let’s not write Tony off for dead. Keep praying for his longevity good health.
Kick off the judge!
Retiring from this administration will be a great thing for his health...probably could be said about any administration..
LOL
I don’t think that we get to decide his next job but I am sure that he’d appreciate our interest in bringing the Show back.
It probably does.
