Snow to leave White House before Bush Press secretary cites money as reason for departure The Associated Press Updated: 1:21 p.m. ET Aug 17, 2007

WASHINGTON - White House press secretary Tony Snow said Friday he'll leave sometime before the end of the Bush presidency because of financial pressures.

He declined to say when he would depart, but that, "I'm going to stay as long as I can."

The 52-year-old Snow, the father of three children, earns $168,000 as an assistant to the president but made considerably more as a conservative pundit and syndicated talk-show host on Fox News Radio. He was named press secretary on April 26, 2006.

The White House has been shaken by the resignations of some of President Bush's closest aides. Political strategist Karl Rove announced Monday that he would leave at the end of the month. Longtime Bush adviser Dan Bartlett left earlier this year and Andrew Card left earlier as Bush's chief of staff.

Bush's term ends on Jan. 20, 2009.

"I will not be able to make it to the end of this administration, just financially," Snow said. "This job has been such a pleasant surprise in how much I like it. I love it."

George Stephanopolous held the same job as Tony in an impeached democrat former president's administration. Steffy is now a "impartial" interviewer on ABC. I'm betting Tony gets a call for a similar job at CBS or NBC within about a month of his departure from the WH. Who want to bet? I know I'm right. (not)

I'll go you one better; if Perkie Katie doesn't improve her ratings, Tony replaces her.

Well it wouldn't hurt to ask for overtime work. All they can do is say no, right?

If it doesn’t, it should. Life with your children is too short under better cirucumstances.

Why waste his beautiful energy on those loosers, the prestitutes, Dana Perino can do a terrific job. He has more than done his duty.

Shaken? I very much doubt that.

Because he has children that he would not want to worry.

We should all be careful about how we phrase things here, because they just may see it.

I would guess that Tony’s departure as Press Secretary will coincide with Brit Hume’s departure/retirement from FNC.

Noooooo...... :(

Who will smack down those stupid reporters? Who will school them as well as Tony?

I pray they replace him with someone just as wonderful as he is, and that will be tough. :)

Hello HC,

Tony was on CSpan with Brian Lamb this past weekend and he was very open about his health, his family and his job.

He said that the doctor told him that he cannot die from this cancer and that they are treating it aggressively. The last chemo session is today! Yay!

He also talked at length about being open with his kids. He found out when they started asking questions this time around that they had held back on questions the last time and he went out of his way to make sure that he answered any questions that they had so that they have a full understanding of his condition and what will happen next.

Aaah ... God bless you, Tony. You’ve been an awesome representative for this White House.

I had a feeling when I saw David Gregory’s interview, and Tony getting very emotional about his family, that he really wants to spend this time with them .. and hopefully, FNC will take him back for BIG bucks.

Godspeed, brave man.

Andy Card has been long gone .. Josh Bolton is Chief of Staff .. and it’s common that they want whatever team’s in place to be there through to the end of the term. They were just all given that option to consider remaining til the end or not.

Giving the whoppers he told about amnesty I would never term him a straight shooter, man speaks with forked tongue. Lost all respect for him!

I suspect that might be the real reason. A press secretary has to push the administration line, even when it's a lie.

I suspect he found that very difficult.
