OAKLAND -- The man charged with murdering Oakland Post Editor Chauncey Bailey was ordered by an associate at Your Black Muslim Bakery to "take the fall" and confess to the killing, the suspect's attorney said today.
Devaughndre Broussard, 19, a handyman at the bakery, was "ordered by someone" to tell Oakland police he had shot Bailey to death on a downtown street corner Aug. 2, said his attorney, LeRue Grim.
Speaking outside Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland after Broussard made a brief appearance before a judge, Grim would not identify the individual he said had pressured his client to confess. But he said the person was tied to the Oakland bakery and had been present during the police interrogation of Broussard.
Assistant Police Chief Howard Jordan declined to comment on Grim's remarks but said, "I believe that we have some of the most professional and ethical investigators in homicide who have done an excellent job with investigating this case. They have done so with dignity and respect for all parties involved."
Authorities have said Broussard was upset that Bailey, 57, was investigating Your Black Muslim Bakery's financial difficulties.
Police have previously denied Broussard's allegations that they beat him into making a false confession. Investigators have also said they believe Broussard did not act alone in killing Bailey.

Muzzie useful idiot?
Definitely Second Amendment eyes. That’s the sort of eyes that make you glad there is one.
Takin’ one for the team, eh?
That’s more or less what I was thinking before I saw your comment. He’s just looking at something in his own mind, trying to figure out a way to kill it.
