You can find LOTS of hate on FR if you know where to look.

Mitt Romney related threads almost always have anti-Mormon bigotry.

Threads dealing with Catholicism often have plenty of hatred directed at Rome.

Evolution related threads generally have religious folks champing at the bit to burn some of them unbelievers at the stake.

And yes, immigration threads usually DO have some racism.
Same for threads about Katrina or crime in general.

While FR _is_ head and shoulders above places like DU, huffpo, Kos, or the official Democrat Party website even, FreeRepublic is far from being as pristine as some here would like to think.

“You can find LOTS of hate on FR if you know where to look.”

I’d like to suggest that there is a difference between legitimate hate (”hate evil, hate sin, etc”) and the hate that gets spewed ‘cause we’re on the Internet and no one is really looking.

If BOR et al are concerned about my legitimate hate, then I really WANT to be included on a hate site.

However, much of the “illegit” hate here is best addressed by people posting it, and others challenging that hate. If BOR and Channel 5 simply points to a few selected posts, and doesn’t follow the thread to see if anyone challenges those statements, then they’re not being honest in their reporting (or just being lazy).

Should we get to the point where we can’t post such statements, or can’t questions such statements, then I’m outta here, returning to my blog to express my thoughts.

[[Mitt Romney related threads almost always have anti-Mormon bigotry.]]

That’s a very general accusation without examples or links to back it up- As well Can you be more specific? Theological differences, no matter how heated, are NOT biggotry- last I checked, we’re still a country where we can discuss theological differences ardently.

[[Threads dealing with Catholicism often have plenty of hatred directed at Rome.]]

Again- theological differences- Hatred? Examples please.

[[Evolution related threads generally have religious folks champing at the bit to burn some of them unbelievers at the stake.]]

Philisophical differences- Burn at hte stake? I find that hard to believe- whould it be true however, a person or two, and that is all that it would be, doesn’t amount to this site being declared a hate site - as opposed to DC where the majority it seems post TRUE hateful remarks all day long

[[And yes, immigration threads usually DO have some racism.]]

And yes, the moderators diligently try to patrol the 1000’s of threads and posts each day to annihlate such assininity. The site itself isn’t hateful but unfortunately SOME posts do make it under hte radar. The site is pristine contrary to your assertions and accusations

Free Republic may not be pristine but it is far from a 'hate' sight in the true sense of the word. This is a losing battle trying to 'appease' the PC forces of our time.

I can see the day when they have us all hitting the 'report abuse' beep-beep-beep-beep buttons on just about any and every thought we express until there's no point trying to discuss anything.

That's not how life works in the real world so why should it work here, sometimes you have to let the free market of ideas play out in total and I trust that the majority of people on this forum mean well and are not what you might call 'hateful' types, angry sometimes, even oftentimes, but not 'hateful.

Where do you draw the line between strong religious disagreement or bigotry? Or pro-American sentiment or racism? Hatred is such a vague term it can be used to apply to almost any disagreement however I am not a child, I can deal with hatred and or strong opposing viewpoints and do not need a nanny to protect me from such, I think a strong and healthy forum wins on the strength and substance of it's ideas from the majority of its members and not on the strength of it's censoring moderators.

Folks, if you don’t like FR, change the channel. It’s that easy.

I don’t think anyone has said “We’re perfect”, after all, we are human——and an amazing group of individuals as well. There probably are some racists, some bigots, etc., but their posts, when anywhere near as graphic as DU, are usually blocked/withdrawn.

...yes, immigration threads usually DO have some racism.

Uh. OK, I'll bite. What race?

Nationalities, even regional affiliations are not necessarily a "race". To my understanding, there are basically four "races", Caucasian, Negro, American Indian, and Oriental.

People from one country, unless they are the sum total and solely of one race, do not a race make, any more than North Dakotans are a 'race'.

I have seen no prejudices against American Indians, nor specifically against any other "race" here.

If the problem is with people who have entered our country illegally or overstayed their visas, I would wager disdain for those acts and actors extends regardless of race, creed, or nation of origin, after all, they have broken our laws.

Furthermore, despite a tinge of xenophobia, we have FReepers from all over the world. Why would they tolerate "hatred" aimed at a particular race?

Please do not fall victim to the leftist propaganda claiming that wanting our government to uphold our immigration laws is "racism". At worst it is nationalism, and I do not necessarily see that as a bad thing, although the OBL and hardcore globalists might.

I think you too, have overemphasized “hate”. Getting the truth out is not hate.
