A host of public officials and about 50 Middle Georgia residents rallied Wednesday morning in front of Macon City Hall to denounce Mayor Jack Ellis' outreach to the Venezuelan government and its president, Hugo Chavez.

Led by state Rep. Allen Peake, R-Macon, and state Sen. Cecil Staton, R-Macon, the group sought to make clear that Ellis' statements were not representative of the "vast majority" of Macon residents. The rally was attended by state legislators, Macon City Council members, Bibb County commissioners and school board members.

I saw one of those poor guys on Glen Beck last night (maybe it was BOR) - trying to defend Macon and represent it as a place that is not a haven for quack pots...

I saw it too. I believe it was reported that he only had three monts left in office, but a lot of damage can be done in those three months.

I heard a Macon City councilman on a local (Atlanta) radio show yesterday talking about this. The radio host asked if the mayor was eligible for reelections and the councilman said, "Praise Jesus, No. He is term limited"

It may me laugh all the way home.

We don't have to guess the mayor's party affiliation, do we.

But this is interesting:

"In February 2007, Ellis made headlines by announcing his December 2006 conversion to Islam, including plans to legally change his name to Hakim Mansour Ellis."
