Are you saying God did not command it? Are you saying Jesus is not God? Perhaps you are saying He is a changeable God?

When Jesus came he taught us a better way to be....we were to follow His words, His example.
No way do I comprehend anyone, whatever their faith, to march unarmed humans and slaughter them. How could this man have thought it was OK? That his fellow church members would WANT him to do that?
I can see for myself that the church at the time did NOT wish that by the letter he received, but how could THIS PARTICULAR man believe they would? It is beyond comprehension.
