Though outnumbered, the emigrant’s wagon train was able to resist the assault because they were equipped with venerable Kentucky Long Rifle, which allowed them to carry the day until their ammunition ran out.

There is no revision going on here. I believe we “Mormons” are not encouraged by Hollywood’s track record on accurately demonstrating history.

September 11 seems not to be a good day for America.

I don’t think anyone has a problem with the “accurate” portrayal of history. Should I believe “The Last Temptation of Christ” or “The DaVinci Code” just because it is a movie? Is that what you are suggesting? How about “Fahrenheit 911”?

Wow...thanks for posting
Seems like the Mormon Church has really agonized over this. Interesting is that the Mormons took responsibility for this....which you cannot say for modern liberals when it comes to crime, illegals, etc

That was 150 years ago. Has no bearing on the Mormons of today. Go back in history and look at Israel, the Crusades, the Church of England, etc, etc, etc. How about the Romans and their many gods? Look at the Vikings, look at anything you want. If you are trying to make the Mormons look bad today because of what happened 150 years ago, it won’t pass muster. Kind of ridiculous.

No one is wishing the past away. On the contrary, the Church has been forthright in its appologies for the tragedy.

For further reading, try “Massacres of the Mountains: A History of the Indian Wars of the Far West” by J. P. Dunn. There’s a chapter about Mountain Meadows, and lot’s about the Indian Wars, starting with the Pueblo Uprising.

You’re right, at least the LDS is making sure that the whole story gets out again before it gets twisted in a dramatization.
To: Spok
I don’t understand what your reasoning is for posting this. Are you attempting to make them look bad?

You did the same thing I did and jumped to the other thread.
I don’t see why Romney’s camp would object to a factually based movie about something that happened over 150 years ago (which is the point of the article on the other thread).

What a bunch of nonsense! Who is supposed to believe a website like that anyway? The first quote they have from Brigham Young is bogus. I have his journal of discourses and this appears nowhere. The rest of the site shows no balance toward “Mormonism”, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or its members. It’s contempt is obvious and calls the rest of its assertions into question.

My reason for the post is that a terrible event took place. Men will be held accountable for their actions. The event took place on the backdrop of a war and decades of hostilities. You may draw your own conclusions from the facts instead of letting Hollywood dramatize it to the absurd.

that makes it bogus?

Since when were “Hollywood production” and “factually based movie” ever synonymous? Should I believe that “Braveheart” was a factual movie? It was touted as an historical piece and yet has very little to do with the real history of its characters. Why should I have confidence that Hollyweird is going to be fair to a Church that teaches its members not to view R rated movies?

They site the reference of that quote to that work. If it doesn't appear there, then by definition it is bogus. Do you just believe everything you see on the Internet?
