Northern part of the county has had a tornado, warnings still up, nothing major here at all (so far).

Anything coming out of Houston will be delayed quite a while, you may as well get comfy.

:( OK I’m going now.

I will call the other girl this morning to see if she’s busy this evening.

Take care.

Anyone watching the NASCAR show on ABC?

I really thought it was going to be a fluff piece put together by the NASCAR PR people when ABC described Jimmie Johnson as a clean-cut driver who plays by the rules and always keeps his cool. That was the funniest damn thing I've seen in a long time - "plays by the rules". Out of everybody that ABC could have picked to describe as somebody who "plays by the rules", they picked Jimmie Johnson LMAO. What's next, are they going to show Kevin Harvick as a quiet person who never wrecks anybody and never gets in a hissy fit when somebody wrecks him?

They showed Montoya and Sauter getting some boos during the introduction, and I'm almost betting money they won't show the boos that Johnson and Jeff Gordon get, which can sometimes be about 10 times louder than Montoya, Sauter, and most of the other drivers put together. If they are going to play up Johnson as clean-cut and following the rules, then I'm sure they won't show any negative stuff.

My thoughts on the show - ABC definitely got a cross section of fans, although most tended to run towards the heavy side. They had minorities, they had plenty of women, they even had a gay biker couple - NASCAR wants this image of accepting everybody as a fan whether they are black, white, brown, female, gay, whatever, and ABC did a good job of that.

I think they could have selected who they followed a bit better - Montoya was boring - yeah, they wanted to show his young family and what it's like for them, as well as his transition, but that's boring - he would be more interesting a year from now when he's settle down and has more experience in stockcars. Same with Sauter (or "Slaughter as some of the fans on the show called him because of his propensity for causing big wrecks), he's a young driver with an underfunded team - that's 75% of NASCAR right there.

Where they really were strong was Mark Martin. They should have just followed him during the whole show, because it was very fascinating. He is a class act, and it showed.

I would mention one other thing - you knew the ABC series was going to be pretty bad in parts when they mentioned 'Talladega Nights' helping make NASCAR "mainstream".

Personally, I think this show was done to help protect ABC/ESPN's investment in broadcasting NASCAR races, since ratings have been iffy this past season or two.

ESPN has done much better shows on NASCAR in the past, I'm not sure why they don't run those.

Just one more article on this only because it is so TRUE.

It’s official: Teresa Earnhardt really doesn’t get it.

Either that, or she really is just evil.

As expected, Earnhardt refused to allow the No. 8 to follow Dale Earnhardt Jr. to Hendrick Motorsports. Or, according to Hendrick officials, the price was so high it didn’t make sense for Earnhardt Jr.’s new team to buy it.

So, the No. 8 that Earnhardt Jr. made famous, that was such a part of the Earnhardt family and that had such a huge fan following will now fall into the hands of another driver, one, presumably, with absolutely no connection to the man who founded Dale Earnhardt Inc.

Dale Earnhardt brought the No. 8 to NASCAR specifically for his son. It was the number that Earnhardt Sr.’s father, Ralph, raced on the short tracks throughout the South. It had historical and family significance when it graced the side of Earnhardt Jr.’s car.

Along with the promotional push of Budweiser, it was Earnhardt Jr. who made the No. 8 the most famous car number in racing. In fact, it had become arguably the third-most famous and significant car number ever, trailing only Richard Petty’s No. 43 and Earnhardt Sr.’s No. 3.

Though it technically belonged to NASCAR and DEI, it rightfully belonged to Earnhardt Jr. He is the man who made it famous and significant, the man who made it an Earnhardt tradition.

But clearly, Teresa Earnhardt has no respect for that. Whether out of spite toward Earnhardt Jr., her stepson, or pure greed, she is keeping the number at DEI. Unless Budweiser plans to return to DEI – which is highly unlikely – and is demanding that the number remain, there seems to be no logical reason for keeping the number except simply to keep it from Earnhardt Jr.

Very heavy rain starting now.

Flooding going on south of us.

We have people calling already for places to stay next week to escape Dean if he comes calling. Many people from Galveston and some from your area as well. Everyone wants to get as far north in Texas as they can from that one.

I mean if it’s flooding from this Erin thing I can only imagine what a Cat4 can do.

It’s one of those “iffy” things. Most flooding we’ve had in 20 years came from a TS. Came in here, went to Del Rio and hit a front. Came back with a vengence. New Braunfels to Cuelo set 500 year flood records. So you never really know.

I find it odd how weather swirls around in circles here in Texas. In California it comes off the ocean and keeps going east for the most part. :)

Should have put my name on it.

... and by the same reasoning, Childress should Put Jr in the 3.

Jr doesn’t want to drive the 3.

I guess he has been under the shadow of his Daddy since 2001 and before actually.

We have surmised that the number ‘3’ would have been a bargaining chip. At this point in time though I don’t want her to have that either.

She could have cleaned up her messy PR with a stroke of the pen and come out smelling like a rose but chose to take the low road once again. Dale Sr has got to be spinning his wheels in heaven over all this.

Per Nascar Now......

GM partners meeting cancelled.

May have something to do with RC’s comments on not wanting Gibbs there if they are going to Toyota.

Rcr/DEI engine merger will have 90% combined engine ready by California and 100% by Richmond. I hope they work better than straight DEI engines.

Kyle Busch no longer to run for RCR in Busch.

"I hope they work better than straight DEI engines."

So does Jr. would be my guess.

I imagine so, every blip or noise that car makes has got to make his heart sink from now on.

If he has any more engine failures or problems he will not be in the chase.
Speaking of Jr, he will be on QVC at the beginning of the second hour live at Graceland on QVC starting in one hour.

Elvis car is featured. Last #8 Budweiser paint scheme.

I’m going to reboot my computer and cross my fingers and toes that it doesn’t crash so I can get some great screen caps. :)

We also have a storm moving through so I hope TW/RR doesn’t go out either. I hope they know how important this is to me. :) LOL

LOL! It has been a long time since I have posted. I had to say this pic is perfect for that witch! She is one hateful, bitter person! Was she that jealous over the relationship between Dale Sr. and Jr.?

He’s said more than once there’s a lot of history there between them.

I am frankly shocked that she would place herself in such an impossible position carrying DEI through this mess which could have been easily solved. It will probably go down in Nascar history as the worst decision ever made by an owner.

We sent thank you notes to Mr Hendrick for at least trying to deal with them. It was probably patently clear that the offer she wanted was impossible for anyone to complete. As I said earlier, she can now say she tried to make a deal by not flatly saying no in the first place.

Over revving the engine past 11,000 rpm on down shift sure as hell didn’t help the situation. Tony should have known to change it and let Jr start at the back. It’s a wonder it lasted as long as it did...
