WAYNE, N.J. -- An actor who once played a lieutenant on NBC's "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" has been charged with possession of child pornography, authorities said Tuesday.
Albert Insinnia, 57, of Bloomfield, turned himself into the Passaic County Sheriff's Department in Wayne on Monday and was released on bail Tuesday morning, said sheriff's spokesman Bill Maer.
Insinnia was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography after authorities allegedly discovered 180 images of child porn on the hard drive of the actor's laptop computer.Your Ad Here
Reached at his home Tuesday afternoon, Insinnia told The Associated Press he had no comment, but his lawyer, Joseph Portelli, said he planned to plead not guilty at an arraignment Tuesday afternoon.
"I understand what he's been charged with, but I do have to say that based on my conversations with him and the authorities involved, I sincerely believe he's not guilty," said Portelli, who mentioned that his client also works as a real estate agent.
According to Portelli, the hard drive on Insinnia's computer has been transferred various times in the last few years and a variety of people have had access to it.
"Any images that may have been on that computer are not his," Portelli said, adding that there are no allegations that his client purchased or sold any of the images.
The sheriff's department has not ruled out additional charges for Insinnia and its investigation is ongoing, Maer said.
"If you exploit a child in Passaic County, you will be hunted down and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Passaic County Sheriff Jerry Speziale said in a statement.
The investigation began after Insinnia took his computer to a Best Buy electronics store in West Paterson for repairs. A technician found the images, police said, and alerted a police detective working security at the store.
According to his biography on a Web site for the film "Over the GW," Insinnia has been acting for more than 30 years. He's appeared on Broadway and played Lt. Pizelli on a couple episodes of "Law and Order: Special
That wouldn't be too hard for a reasonably proficient examiner to prove. The detective in the teacher case was an incompetent idiot, and almost anyone in the business could tell that just from reading the news stories.
Yep, that's the most likely explanation. If I take over someone else's system, I not only format, I wipe the drive completely and reload from scratch.
Should he be grateful they found Child Porn instead of Gay Porn?
After the Geek Squad kid copied them off for his own secret stash and messed up all the timestamps there ought to be enough reasonable doubt to drive a truck through. You don't get a good chain of custody at $8 an hour (or whatever they pay).
what about financial info and other info that is saved on my computer. I've got a file with passwords and account numbers on it. I've also got tax and income records on my laptop as well as my "regular computer".
How do I keep those out of the hands of repair guys that are helping me with my computer?
I've got a Wintel and a new MacBook pro. Each has a "secure" empty trash, does that "wipe" the excel spreadsheats, word perfect and tax software info off the hard drive so nobody can find the stuff?
Encryption is the best solution. There are several good commercially available encryption programs (PGP, BestCrypt, TrueCypt, etc). Set up a container to hold your financial and other sensitive documents, and only encrypt that container. Just don't forget your password, and don't store the password on the computer anywhere!

I don't know what utility your systems use for "secure deletion", but as long as it overwrites the files with random data, as opposed to just marking the file deleted, you should be okay in most cases.
It depends. The Geek Squad kid viewing the files may have changed the last accessed date, but it will not change the date the file was saved to the hard drive. And unless the customer gave the Geek his username/password (never a good idea),it will not affect any information located in his profile.
Gee, another Hollywood scumbag....
He was in two episodes. Not much of a character by Law and Order standards.
Waiting for certain people here to attempt to implicate Fred Thompson in this by association...
Even FREEPERS who do not support Fred would not go that low. That is pretty bad to even suggest.
Exactly. Very misleading headline, su-prize, su-prize.
One would hope you are correct.
However, with some of the vitriol I’ve seen posted by Fred detractors......I’m just not so sure of that.
That’s required reading for jobs in Hollywood.
And the fact that he took it to a Best Buy could validate that point.
And Fred was probably in the same episode as this guy. He needs to step down now!
Yes, indeed. I used to have a bumper sticker that read...
Parents, it’s 10 PM, do you know where Roman Polanski is?
They'll use anything and everything they can. Nothing's off limits, no matter how ridiculous it is.
Anyone who can’t see the direct connection is blind and a lying fool.
“True Conservatives” can see the link from miles away.
As I posted, the link is obvious. I think this makes Fred totally unfit...
To be a Ron Paul VP choice...
Why is this posted on here? What does it have to do with Fred? Please inlighten me.
