Gingrich 'sickened' with Bush, Congress ("young Americans..massacred by illegal immigrants)
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | Aug. 14, 2007 | EUNICE MOSCOSO

on vacation "while young Americans in our cities are massacred" by illegal immigrants.

Gingrich, who is considering a run for the White House, was referring to a recent crime in Newark, N.J., where three college students were murdered execution style in a school playground.

One of the suspects -- Jose Lachira Carranza -- is an illegal immigrant from Peru who was on bail on charges of raping a child when the murders occurred.

Gingrich said another suspect is an illegal immigrant from Nicaragua with a long record of arrests who was ordered deported in 1993 but never left.

However, The (Newark) Star Ledger reported Tuesday that the man -- Rodolfo Godinez -- obtained permanent legal residency in 2001.

The Newark Police Department did not return requests for comment.

Gingrich said that the "war here at home" against illegal immigrants is "even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan."

"The federal government's incompetence, timidity and uncoordinated efforts to identify and deport criminal illegal aliens have had devastating consequences for innocent Americans," Gingrich said, in a newsletter.

Gingrich said that the "war here at home" against illegal immigrants is "even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan."

"As an American, I am sickened that the political leadership of America could continue to go on vacation and do nothing," he said. "Why are the August vacations for the president and the Congress more precious than the lives of young Americans who are being killed because of government incompetence and inaction."

Gingrich said that President Bush should call Congress back into special session for three days to pass a bill in honor of the slain students.

The measure should order the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security to outsource the development of an identification system to check the legal status of felons and have it up and running by Jan. 1, 2008, he said.

In addition, it should withdraw federal aid from any city, county or state that refuses to participate in checking the legal status of arrested felons, Gingrich said.

Authorities say six people, including four juveniles, were involved in the Aug. 4 murders of Terrance Aeriel, 18; Dashon Harvey, 20; and Iofemi Hightower, 20, according to news reports. A fourth victim, 19-year-old Natasha Aeriel, survived after being shot in the head.

Three of the six suspects are in custody, including Carranza, who turned himself into authorities. Three are at large.

Police have said that robbery was the motive for the killings.

Too bad when Newt controlled the House and had a strong conservative majority to pass legisaltion, he ignored immigration. It was not important to him when he was at the plate and could have done something.

Oh please! Immigration was not even an issue then. Newt started a conservative Repub revolution, too bad others didn't fight hard enough to really win it when we needed to win!

“Gingrich said that the “war here at home” against illegal immigrants is “even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.” “

I like you Newt, but you have little credibility on the illegal alien problem. Quit talking about running for president and get behind Duncan Hunter, the one man who has been totally consistent on this issue.

Oh you are right, we had no illegals coming across the border the whole time Newt was in Congress because we had a fence built that he pushed for and passed legislation when he controlled the House. / sarcasm off

Show me where this was a front burner issue at the time. People were not bringing it up in huge numbers, or any number for that fact, like they are today and you know it.

So, yes turn your friggin' sarcasm off please!

First off— I give Newt the benefit of doubt that that was his comment.... maybe wishful thinking....

“Gingrich said that the “war here at home” against illegal immigrants is “even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

“Gingrich said that President Bush should call Congress back into special session for three days to pass a bill in honor of the slain students”

“The measure should order the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security to OUTSOURCE” (my caps) “the development of an identification system to check the legal status of felons and have it up and running by Jan. 1, 2008, he said”.

now for the only comment I agree with.......”In addition, it should withdraw federal aid from any city, county or state that refuses to participate in checking the legal status of arrested felons, Gingrich said”.

And... I did not know President Bush was on vacation and if he is he always takes a ‘working vacation’.

Gingrich used to be a hero for me - but then so did McCain!

Just having Newt Gingrich included in all future debates would truly help to improve the overall debates on all of the issues! I truly don’t expect Newt to win because of all of his negative personal baggage, but he truly adds to the debates just by participating in them. Newt is truly a very smart man when it comes to the majority of political matters (with exceptions to him agreeing with Hillary Clinton on health care issues and with him agreeing with Senator John Kerry during a debate between the two that man made global warming really does exist).

newt sat on his hands and NEVER did anything about illegal immigration...

So! It wasn't an issue at the time. He was too busy trying to WIN congressional control for the Repubs, and succeeded! Where were all the conservatives repubs after they won screaming to take care of this II issue after they won, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Illegals have been a hot topic issue long before GW. If you were so busy making sure no illegals were gettting by your gate, you would know that. Newt has ZERO CREDIBILITY on immgration. He sat idly by while our healthcare system all along the southern border with Mexico was decimated by illegals when he was in Congress. That has been a hot topic issue for many years but I guess you missed that while gate watching.

Thank you for the link. I find this interesting from the link's web page:

1990: Voted for a bill that included an amnesty - Former Rep. Gingrich voted for H.R. 4300, which provided an amnesty for up to 165,000 spouses and minor children of illegal aliens who were granted amnesty in 1986. Ultimately, the 1990 bill passed.
