OCEANSIDE -- Nearly eight months after a rifleman gunned down an Oceanside policeman during a traffic stop, prosecutors Monday charged a third teenager in the officer's slaying.

Alleged Oceanside gang member Jose Compre, 17, is set to be in a Vista courtroom this afternoon to answer to murder and other charges, Deputy District Attorney Tom Manning said.

A sniper's bullet killed 25-year-old Officer Dan Bessant on Dec. 20, shortly after Bessant arrived to give a fellow officer backup during a routine traffic stop in a northeast Oceanside neighborhood with a history of gang violence.

I don’t give a rat’s butt where the punk was born, all involved in this murder should fry in the electric chair.

But it won’t happen. If any are from MeHeeKo, then I would expect screams from the consulate to bring justice.

Citizen status hasn't been stated in any coverage.

The two gangs that have been targeted are a samoan and a hispanic.

Lot of heat in the comments at the NCTimes but it doesn't really matter

Isn’t multiculturalism great? I’m so happy that our Hispanic neighbors can share the wonder of their culture with us.

Just a heads up for you who took interest in the past. here we are some 8 months later in the extremely slow process of the legal system.

This is the third Juvenile arrested and charged in the shooting. He was picked up as a person of interest within days of the shooting but not charged until this week.

Reading the article you will see reference to an OPD effort that rounded up several on assorted warrants and may have uncovered additional evidence that cleared the way for this indictment.

I assume that the reason that he was being held as a juvie was because the original charges didn’t warrant charging him as an adult and hopefully he will now be charged as an adult.

That's the way I read it too. To the best of my bonehead memory there were some other charges that they kept him on being a juvenile. Probationary restrictions come to mind.

It really gets old, S.D. County, Newark, etc. etc.
What, we don’t have enough criminals that we have to let these folks enter the U.S. and make them fell at home.
