MONTERREY, Mexico Two Iraqis traveling to the United States were arrested Monday at the Monterrey International Airport with fake Swiss passports, authorities said.
The two men, who said they were Chaldean Christians ages 25 and 30, were fleeing discrimination in war-torn Iraq, said Luis Robles, a Mexican immigration official.
"They behaved a little strangely, so they were sent for a secondary interrogation," Robles said.
The men were headed to California, where one man said he had a sister, Robles said.
There are sizable communities of Iraqi Christians in the state.
The arrests marked the second time this year that Iraqi Christians trying to reach the United States through Mexico were detained in Monterrey.
In January, 11 Iraqis, including a woman and a 2-year-old girl, were arrested with fake passports.
In both cases, they flew to Monterrey from Madrid, Spain, on a flight that immigration authorities said is an illegal immigration conduit.
"We put a lot of emphasis on that flight," Robles said.
The men, whose names authorities did not immediately release, will be sent to Mexico City for further investigation.
Under Mexican law, they could face charges or deportation. But if they clear terrorist watch lists, they may be released.
The Iraqis arrested in January were freed in Mexico without charges.
They did not seek refugee status in Mexico and eventually left the country, said Cecilia Romero, Mexico's top immigration official.
"The situation in Iraq, as we all know, is a conflictive situation," Romero said in January. "They are fleeing a war in their country and we can't simply tell them 'Go.'"

Ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
A Mexican Jail is too good for them....!
2 held. Great, but how many other potential Jihadists have gotten through over the past decade?
So, THAT’s why we’re getting the immigration thing shoved down our throat - it’s a cover for incoming terrorists...We pay the Mexican gov’t to search and seize and they get our US American dollars via illegals working here in America.
“In both cases, they flew to Monterrey from Madrid, Spain, on a flight that immigration authorities said is an illegal immigration conduit.”
And just a month ago BUSH was insisting on OPEN borders.
I am suspicious of his latest move ...
No question that our wide-open borders are a huge liability in the WOT. Our southern border is of particular concern. Amazing that a President who makes terrorism a central concern wouldn’t bother to secure the damn border.
I just don’t beleve anything he says on the subject.
what IF they are christians? What IF they are legitimately fleeing?
Somehow, I get the feeling that Iraqi Christians are not “incoming terrorists.”
That needs to be verified, but if you are a Christian, pray for them. We know God can make things work out. If they meant harm, well, then pray for justice...
I actually did volunteer work to help get him elected but he is royally pissing me off with his immigration stance ... I don’t trust him ... he’s a stubborn one ... I can’t imagine him letting go on this.
“what IF they are christians? What IF they are legitimately fleeing?”
Why ARE they travelling on fraudulent passports? What IF they are illegitimately trying to enter the US?
Sorry, “Christian Persecution Syndrome” ain’t flying in this story. Lock ‘em up....Better yet, send ‘em back, via Iran or Syria, see if they still claim to be “Christians”.

Still probing, but with every failure, they learn what and what not to do on the next excursion.
Do not think for a moment that a few already have not been successful. Perhaps at the present time, their numbers are too few and too scattered to strike effectively, but that is expected to shift over the next few years.
“Iraqi Freedom” means many different things to various people.
What IF they are christians? What IF they are legitimately fleeing?
With FAKE Swiss passports?
...have someone inquire at their destination... there are always ways to check the story.
Are they going to that cal. community of christians?
Normally people run to a sanctuary where they have relatives, friends and a support system. Also, If I was running,I too would use false docs.
Another thing...in a lot of those third world countries...most can not leave as they cannot get visas....Thus they have to get a faker/forgery.
to me this is all plausible.
let their support group come fwd
I doubt jihadist will step up to the plate on this one!
Somehow, I get the feeling that “liers” could be anything!
shudread
I doubt the Jihadists will step up to the plate on this one!
