That bottom picture is of a different type of site. It’s a recent site with lots of very high precision equipment - far more sophisticated and expensive than the USHCN stuff...and it’s placed right up against an air-conditioned trailer.

Do not install the sensor on a steep slope or in a sheltered hollow unless it is typical of the area or unless data from that type of site are desired. When possible, the shelter should be no closer than four times the height of any obstruction (tree, fence, building, etc.). it would be interesting to discover just when this particular unit was installed.

Here’s what Bush should do about this:

He should call a press conference and make a public apology for the NASA data screw-up. He should say, “although I personally didn’t erroneously list 1998 as the hottest year, I am the President, the buck stops here, and I take full responsibility.”

He should then go on to say something like, “in my defense, let me point out that, although the erroneous data is ultimately my responsibility, and thus, in a sense, my mistake, I at least didn’t compound my mistake by signing the Kyoto accords, which, as it turns out, are invalidated by the original error.”

If he did that, he would end his administration on a high note. He would be the greatest Liberal Dragon slayer since Ronald the Great himself.

This is just a tiny example of how we “pay the government to lie to us”.... If the 99.999% of Americans had even an inkling of what kind of lies the US Government perpetrates on it’s citizens (and has for many years), there would be blood in the streets....
