Opening the investigation into the combat death in Afghanistan of NFL defensive back Pat Tillman, Chairman Henry A. Waxman of the House Committee On Oversight and Government Reform said about fatalities there and in Iraq,Each death has its own compelling story. Each brought incalculable grief for the soldiers family and...

vanity ping!
I do, however, deeply question Waxman’s motives. He has tried to make it look like news of Tillman’s death is just coming out now. It took all of four weeks before it was announced as friendly fire. There were at least two investigations conducted in that time. The lying and covering up lasted only a couple of weeks. Milking the situation for political gain is going to go on for years.
The rumor that Tillman was killed by three “closely spaced rounds to the forehead”, if true - would make it hard for me to accept as “accidental” if fired at close range and next to impossible if fired at long range...
An “execution” is not out of the question..
It a sad scenario, no matter the truth..
But - the family is entitled to as much of the truth as can be gleaned without dragging everyone through the mud...
In situations like that — stuff happens.
Has any reason been even so much as rumored as to why any of Tillman’s fellow soldiers would have wanted to murder him? Has any U. S. soldier’s name been mentioned as the likely culprit? It seems very odd that the charge of fratricide has not been garnished with some specifics to substantiate it.
It's utter BS! Just like the claim that Pat Tillman was really a buddy of Naom Chomsky.
Why don't the prevaricators go all the way and say that Pat Tillman was an admirer of Ted Rall, also?
GW Bush and Dick Cheney ordered the hit because they knew Tillman would expose them
I find it disgusting that they are using the grief of his family to manipulate them into attacking and undermining the President during a time of war. What possible good would it have done to tell his family and America before the investigation was complete, that his death might have been fratricide?
Pat Tillman, by all accounts, was no dummy so I find it hard to fathom that he would believe that the Iraq war was illegal and agree with the likes of America hater chomskey.
I also disagree with the thinking that because he gave up a lucrative contract with the NFL, that somehow makes him more heroic than a middle class high school graduate from West Virginia who also volunteered to serve.
Except for the paragraph I copied, I agree with what you say. Giving up a million dollars to slog it out in the military -- plus the public adulation he missed as not being a sports standout is quite noble.
We should have malls and sports stadiums named after Mr. Tillman to honor him.
This is a poor analogy but who is hurt more, a wealthy man who is robbed of his wallet containing $100 or a poor man who has $100 stolen, which is all that he has? After all, it's just $100.
How sad. I hope the truth comes out.
