If anyone ever starts a museum of horrible explanations, the one-liner by Newsweek's Evan Thomas about his magazine's dubious reporting on the Duke non-rape case "The narrative was right but the facts were wrong" is destined to become a popular exhibit, right up there with "we had to destroy the village to save it."
What Mr. Thomas seems to mean is that the newsroom view of the lacrosse players as privileged, sexist, and arrogant white male jocks was the correct angle on the story. It wasn't.
According to Duke's female lacrosse team and other women on campus, the male players are solid citizens who treat women well. Many players volunteer to tutor poor children in Durham. Some players are privileged, but most come from ordinary middle-class homes. There is no evidence of a racist team culture.
One objectionable racial comment was reported that night, in response to a racial taunt from one of the strippers. It occurred after the party and the player involved was not one of those indicted. The mainstream press, most conspicuously the New York Times, botched the story by imposing a race-gender-class narrative line. The facts were wrong, as Mr. Thomas said, but the narrative line was wrong too.
Bias complaints against the mainstream press usually involve the stubborn use of a preferred story line when facts are shaky or nonexistent. The New Republic's current trouble may be in this category.
The magazine's three "Baghdad Diarist" columns by an anonymous American soldier, later identified as Private Scott Beauchamp, presented a sour view of American troops. It included an anecdote about Mr. Beauchamp and a comrade humiliating an Iraqi woman whose face had been "melted" by an IED. The editors set forth the narrative linethe "morally and emotionally distorting effects of war" are unbalancing some American troops....

What is “Newsweek”?
Of the three US news weeklies, Newsweek is the sickliest in terms of lost circulation. Newsweek won’t last another 36 months unless some total fool like Soros buys it.
Notice that the Duke thing is out of the news. That’s so that the mind-numbed public will forget, and the criminal prosecutor can get away with a horrible crime.
Ultra glossy toilet paper that masquerades as a news magazine.
I wonder if the toads at Newsweek are having Tawana Brawley burgers for lunch. Those are the burgers that you take home and put your own sh!* on em.
And, so it seems, that the N.H.H. behind these false accusations can walk away unscathed. As much as Nifonmg should be prosecuted to the fullest extent, MANGUM BRAWLEY is the root cause of this whole case and should be caged posthaste for deliberate criminal activity.
Evan Thomas — a poof whose appearances on television always arouses my dormant violent instincts.....
It enrages me that folks allow this asshole’s opinion to be voiced without rolling their eyes and laughing out loud at his trite insanity....
That is the best summary of the State of the MSM I've ever read!
Newsweek has mostly ignored the REAL rape and racial hate outrage in the South..
The murder and rape of the white couple in Tennessee by a gang of blacks is being ———shall we say, being BLACKWASHED?
Where is the outrage over a REAL crime?
Or — has the left decided to show their racial bigotry by under reporting crimes by blacks as being “expected behavior”?
"The memo was fake but accurate."
???
I think everybody DOES.
So, “Fake, But Accurate” raises its ugly head once again. Why don’t they (MSM) just come out and admit that they are trying to manipulate thought patterns, rather than report actual news events? They might as well, at this point, since they’ve all but admitted it with the recurring FBA scandals.

An all time classic:
“I lied to my diary”
.
Ironically, they neglect to point out that Global Warming's biggest protagonist, AlGore, is making money off selling carbon offsets.
“Newsweek has mostly ignored the REAL rape and racial hate outrage in the South.”
Every media outlet has. The double standards relating to crime and race and racism and race are criminal in themselves. The biggest perpetrators have the most protection.
I have lived in the South mostly my whole life. Since the 90’s it has gotten bad. It’s all the “little things” really. Black folks won’t make eye contact and rarely answer when you say “hello”. I pass black people in the hall at work and say good morning. I get a response about 25% of the time. Most often, I’m just ignored.
When they are walking through a parking lot or down the street, they won’t move when a car is coming. It’s intimidation 24/7. I worked at this place in Memphis where I was the only white guy. It was brutal. In the two weeks I worked there the only words that were spoken to me was “What are you laughing at?”, when I laughed at a joke someone made. Their hatred of me was palpable and thick. I actually heard one of my neighbors on the phone (that’s how loudly they talk!)about how their white neighbors didn’t matter. We are the only whites here.
I experience that most any day I leave my house now. Constant rudeness, loud public profanity, intimidation and open hatred. I’ve had enough and I’m moving. I will miss my beloved river but that is all.
