FOREST, VA. A smudge of driveway sealant resembling the face of Jesus Christ has fetched more than $1,500 in an online auction.
The family that found the image on its garage floor sold it for $1,525.69 on eBay Wednesday, more than a week after the slab of concrete was put on sale.
"I really never thought I'd get any, to be honest," said Deb Serio, a high school teacher.
"It's fun to see what people say and think about it," said Serio, who has gotten hundreds of messages from around the world.
The family has hired a contractor to remove the section of concrete. The chunk will be turned over to the winner, identified only as "islandoffthecoast."
An active Lutheran, Serio considers the smudge just an odd occurrence not a sign or miracle.
"There are some people who need this kind of thing to sort of start them on their faith journey. I don't," she said. "That's why I don't mind parting with it."
Foolish idolatry such as this could set the fetishism industry back days, if not weeks.
This is all foolishness, of no eternal value and mere graven images, made by man.
People are so stupid!
I didn’t get anything. 416 looks and no bids. But I take your point.
I really need to get in the business of making "Christ-like" images on various items and putting them up for sale. It looks to be quite lucrative!
I think I saw Mohammed’s face on a pork rind once..........Think some rich muslim would buy it?........
Oh well....
Nobody ever learned nuthin from being taught things.
Actually, it’s a pretty good one. It’s got the crown of thorns, a Jewish nose (if that doesn’t get me in trouble), closed eyes, heavy (but straight, not caveman-like) eyebrowns. It’d make a decent book illustration. But it almost makes me think it was “painted” in the grease.
>> How come nobody ever claimed THAT was the face of Jesus?...... <<
If it had a beard instead of a space helmet...
Good thing the smudge didn’t look like Mohammad or all hell would have broken loose.
ebay, my FRiend ... ebay. That’s the only way to find out.
I’d recommend an optometrist.
I’d laugh if it cost him $2000 to get his garage floor fixed! ;-o
Maybe, but an idiot who doesn’t need to see Jesus’ image in a slab of concrete to justify my beliefs. And certainly not one who will ever pay 1,500 dollars for someone else’s sealant stains.
Maybe we’re looking at it at the wrong angle? Try rotating it as see what you come up with. I saw part of Henry Kissinger.
On eBay, getting a bid and getting the money are two different matters.
It is funny that as modern artistic representations of Christ become more and more abstract, more and more things look like modern abstract representations of Christ.
No wonder the left ear is missing!!!!!
I can’t get anything past “You People”.. /grin
