Here's a story of scientific investigation and discovery I'm proud to have had a small part in. Regular readers may remember that I posted about a climate station in Detroit Lakes MN last week, surveyed by volunteer Don Kostuch, and cross posted it to the website http://www.climateaudit.org/?p=1828#comments that had two air conditioner units right next to it. It looked like an obvious cause and effect because in 1999 on May 5th, it was determined that the a/c units were moved off the roof of the radio station where this station resides and moved them to the ground where the temperature sensor is close by...

If your ear wasn't so hot you could here the truth from the Goracle!
Did you photoshop that or did you knit the cute little hat for your kitty?
Do your ears hang low? and so forth. The original is not G-rated.
If the Goracle wants to make the argument that the US temperature, which is the best data available, is the anomaly, he is welcome to do so.
I will defer to your expertise on such matters.
Someone talking about me? My ears are on fire.
Hehehe - I actually just found the picture on a google image search for something funny to put on this thread. It wasn’t ‘zackly what I was looking for, but it worked!
So this young couple are checking into the hotel, blushing newlyweds, apparently in the big city for the first time, and the amused clerk asks,
“Would you two care to use the bridal suite?”
And the bride thinks for a while, still blushing, and replies:
“No, I reckon I’ll just hold him by the ears.”
This summer has S-U-C-K-E-D! One day at 99 degrees, a couple of others in the mid seventies. Other than that, lots of clouds and lots of rain.
I get a hot ear when I talk on the phone too long.
I was at a presentation at Nasa's Marshall Space Flight Center in the 60s when the NASA engineers were in a heated dispute with us contractors over a force calculation number. We couldn't resolve the descrepancy. Then a NASA engineer interjected and asked: "what unit of measurement are you using"? "newtons" came the answer. The NASA guy said "ah ha". I see your problem. You are using metric while we are using english.
You see 1 N (newton) = 0.22481 lbf (pound force).
My new kitty’s ears are so big, we named him Ewok Kitty ;)
Seriously, the temp where we live is well below normal. They might even be telling the truth about the winter warnings up here...
Welcome to FR!
Becoming clearer and clearer that CO2 is a canard or a misdirection ploy. If these modern Political Scientists were truly concerned with the effects that Automobiles have on the temperature of the atmosphere, they would have started their 'investigatory' work by quantifying how much actual heat is transferred from automobiles directly to the atmosphere. Cars cool themselves by transferring heat directly to the atmosphere via their radiators. Less efficient cars produce more heat. Ethanol use will probably generate more heat because it is less efficient. So they really do not care about the warming effects of automobiles. Its the legislation, increased demand on ethanol, selling of hybrids and carbon trading that is most important. In other words, the entire environmental movement has been compromised. The same canard theory can probably be applied to all CO2 generating activities. They all end up generating heat which ends up within the atmosphere. CO2 is a symptom, not the problem.
Obviously, they develop their conclusions before they develop their data.
Over the 100-year timescale, the main change is going to come from greenhouse gases that will dominate natural variability, but in the coming 10 years the natural internal variability is comparable,” Smith said. lol...They are already giving themselves an out if their prediction does not come true. When it does not happen as they forecast, they will merely say ‘natural internal variability’ overrode the evil CO2 in changing the climate. Thus when things start to get COOLER in the next decade, they can say ‘just wait for the next decade’
And what does that satellite do? Well, it determines, based on observation of windspeed and precipitation, that a weather system actually becomes a hurricane.
Absent this satellite NOAA would use computer analysis to examine images from other satellites to guess what could have been a hurricane.
In short without QuikScat it'd be up to Proenza's former subordinates to artfully judge what was really a hurricane.
I'd start looking to them to find out who was ramping up the Global Warming hysteria by, among other things, misrepresenting data.
We could probably get some answers pretty quick with a little waterboarding (which seems soooooo relevant for weather guys).
