Ron Paul Quietly Converting GOP Believers

By John Fout TheStreet.com Political Correspondent 8/9/2007 12:20 PM EDT

Why haven't conservatives leaders embraced their own ideals and come out to support Ron Paul in public?

I pondered this issue in an article in June. I saw Paul as the one second-tier candidate who might have a chance of a breakout from the pack. It turns out I might have got it right. He has remained the most popular GOP candidate on the Internet. This genuine outpouring of support is rivaled only by that for Barack Obama.

“because the tide has turned in Iraq”.

Great. The quicker our troops comes home the better. That’s what the metric is.

Yes and his antisemitism as well. This guy and the Paulestinians are an insult to this forum, however we need some of them for our entertainment and amusement.

CenTexConfederate, you brought this up yesterday, I asked you to provide information about those who were "held" up to a year. You didn't.

Two requests, I'll help with the first.

There were about 200 Israeli students arrested for visa violation. Probably the only 200 visa violators in the country, certainly the only 200 of interest to the DEA.

You can find the DEA report all over the web.

To my knowledge there wasn't a one "held", they all had access to due process.

Most were simply deported, as they should be. Some were charged with crimes. A quick review of the stats one for pot possession, two with false SS numbers, several for tresspass, a number for peddling without a permit. I don't know if any of them served a year in jail, they may have, but in my view to somehow tie that to 9/11 is overtly dishonest.

Second, you've made the charge that these arrests are somehow connected to 9/11.

You need to support that charge, how were the Israeli students connected?

Lacking that explanation, you're just one of FR's top Paul supporters who is also a manipulative conspiracy theorist. Paul seems to have a number of them amongst his admirers.

Yes and his antisemitism as well.

I had missed that. I have been enjoying the Paulistinian war. Keeps things interesting.

So are you suggesting that the Joooooos were behind 9/11? And BTW, I would like to see one credible (not Alex Jones, NOT any freaky-deaky conspiracy site, NOT Weekly World News, Not al Jazeera) news story that supports exactly what you are inferring.

That would be the only logical conclusion, wouldn't it.

The last thing we conservatives/the Republican Party need are conspiracy theorists and antisemitics in our midst. Perhaps we will look back on the 2008 election and say it was a slam-dunk, but I doubt it. It’s more likely to be a battle all the way to the finish.

Speaking of books...you might want to read the 9/11 Commission Report. Maybe Ron Paul and his supporters have forgotten the fact that Bin Laden and other jihadists bragged that the Beirut and Somalia retreats inspired them, but I haven’t. IMHO, Ron Paul can GTH if he wants us to retreat again.

The Mossad is to clever to get caught. Israel provided arms captured from the PLO in Beirut to the Afghani rebels in the mid 80s. At America's request. I'm sure the conspiracy nuts can tie this in somehow.

Why exactly do we need troops in Beirut or Somalia?

Actual conservatives are not about to “fear” paleoPaulie but we will crush his antiwar antiAmerican candidacy as soon as the actual voting starts. Truthers, Birchers and pro-Al Qaeda types are NOT going to inherit the GOP. Say goodbye now to the wannabe king of federally subsidized pseudoconstitutional Galveston pork.

Fair enough.

Now have your precious GOP cough up a candidate that seriously believes in limited constitutional government, and we'll be on our way.

I'm not holding my breath for THAT one either.

"At the Republican Convention next year Ron Paul will get ZERO delegates."

Since you are predicting the future, please tell us what you forsee for the general election.

Who is the eventual Republican nominee?

Will that Republican win?

Great. The quicker our troops comes home the better. That’s what the metric is.

The metric is to win this thing, not to cut and run.

Most of us here do not wish to have people at home sitting behind keyboards deciding when it is time for us to leave. The military here is disgusted with that kind of talk.

"Respectfully - if Ron Paul should somehow win the GOP nomination, Hillary will be President."

IMO, no, Ron Paul is the ONLY Republican who could win the general.

“Limited””constitutional” government is rather low on my personal list of priorities. My priorities that are far more important to me are: Innocent babies, normal marriage and precluding the other kinds, unconditional military conquest of our nation’s enemies, a navy and air force well-stocked with nuclear weapons usable at a moment’s notice against our nation’s enemies, a restoration of a 600-ship navy, a couple of million soldiers, sailors, marines and airforce personnel on REGULAR active duty at all times and ready to roll, gun rights (near absolute), the right to leave (in case a paleoPaulie is EVER nominated or Ms. Arkansas Antichrist is ever elected, the permanent dynasty forming in the New York Yankee farm system as we post, ‘50s rock and roll, disco, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, the absolute political destruction of paleopeacecreeps, the marginalization of other people who favor the likes of paleoPaulie, cutting severely the taxes of Americans of modest means. When those are taken care of, get back to us on the size of government and its spending.
