There was a Beavis & Butthead episode in which the hippie teacher Van Dresen and his “colleagues” went into the woods to bang on drums. It’s all downhill from there.

The South Park episode where a character voiced by Jennifer Anniston goes to the Rain Forest is one of the best:

Exactly what trouble has this lady been?

Would your question be the same if she were a neo-Nazi living in a treehouse that was covered in swastikas? I would bet not. The idea of the hippie being a harmless eccentric is complete bunk. We all know that hippies, as much as they may claim to treasure love, togetherness, and tolerance, are the most virulent and violent people when it comes to political ideology. She and others like her would vote in officials that would have Christians and other assorted conservatives crucified in a heartbeat if they could, and they would feel completely justified in doing so because conservatives are "mean-spirited".

Do you realize how high she has to be all the time, to live in Miami without air conditioning?

She wouldn’t need drugs for that - the aroma from her pits would probably be enough to stone a rhinoceros.

She must be in Coconut Grove.
The tree house is her business, but farm animals??
That is against city codes.

Some of the comments are interesting considering that this is a forum where conservatives espouse freedom and property. How could anyone feel threatened by this woman who is obviously connected to nature, helps others and lives as she wants? From what I've read, it is the reporter who called her a hippie; where does she call herself a hippie?

How did people in America live only 150 years ago? Obviously some posters have never been to the bush to see how some Alaskans live.

I think living in a tree house is a wonderful, almost magical experience; I happen to live in one for part of the year. I wish it could be year round. She's very fortunate. She is doing good works. The life she lives speaks for itself. My only admonition, be the person who you are. In the end, only kindness matters.

"But I'm sure she helps spread the idiotic hippie idea of irresponsibility."

How exactly are you sure? Where is your proof and documentation. I'd like to know what you know.

I said that tongue in cheek.

In all seriousness, I hate hippies. I make no apologies for this.

Still my favorite SP episode:

[driving through San Jose, Costa Rica]
Eric Cartman: Oh my God, it smells like ass out here.
Miss Stevens: All right, that does it. Eric Cartman, you respect other cultures this instant.
Eric Cartman: I wasn’t saying anything about their culture, I was just saying their city smells like ass.
Miss Stevens: You may think that making fun of third-world countries is funny but let me...
Eric Cartman: I don’t think it’s funny. This place is overcrowded, smelly and poor. That’s not funny, that sucks.

I wouldn’t have a problem with hippies if they kept to themselves (especially downwind). However, as long as they insist on imposing their brand of Communism on the rest of us, then it means war as far as I’m concerned.

The spoof of Hooters, called "Raisins," is right up there, too.

Here is a transcript to the Rainforest episode. Cartman's response of "Yeah, pretty much" is so funny.

"...I hate hippies."

What we think about another, we think about ourselves. Good luck with that "hate" thing. Do you call yourself a Christian?
