Bush Defends His Immigration Proposals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — President Bush sharply challenged critics of his stalled immigration-overhaul efforts on Thursday, suggesting that failure to pass a guest-worker program could trigger a labor shortage in the United States.

At a town-hall style meeting, Bush also rebuffed a question about whether he would consider pardoning two Border Patrol agents in prison for the cover-up of the shooting of a drug trafficker in Texas.

"No, I won't make you that promise," Bush told a woman who asked about a possible pardon. Many Republicans in Congress have said the men should not have been convicted and have criticized the federal U.S. attorney for even prosecuting the agents.

"I know it's an emotional issue but people need to look at the facts. These men were convicted by a jury of their peers after listening to the facts" as presented by U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, said Bush. Bush called Sutton a friend.

The president also toured a bun bakery here, and used the business to illustrate a warning to Congress that he'd veto any government spending bill that he thinks is excessive.

"You can't keep making buns if the Democrats take all your dough," Bush joked in a speech shortly after taking in the aroma of fresh bread at the bakery, which supplies fast-food restaurants

These men were convicted by a jury of their peers after listening to the facts" as presented by U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, said Bush.

Sutton conveniently left out the FACT that the drug smuggler was a repeat offender whose testimony was not reliable.

Vegtable and fruit prices at area supermarkets, thanks to NAFTA, CAFTA, etc., are now highest seen in years!!!

The price of anything is governed mostly by what people are willing to pay for it. If a supplier can clear out their inventory and charge a high price, then the supplier will charge a high price. In the case of produce, suppliers increase their profits by using cheap illegal workers but they don't pass that savings onto us because of what I stated.

This little "crack-down" on the feds forcing businesses to confirm the identities/status of their workers that maybe starting soon, there is a lot of rumbling that this will impact certain industries (especially agricultural and construction), and those industries have a lot of lobbying dollars.

What do you want to bet that those industries will push Congress to pass Bush's amnesty plans??? By using the federal government to make things difficult on employers, they'll grumble to their Congress critters who will then ask Bush what will it take to call the feds off, and Bush will say "pass my amnesty plans!"

BWAHAHAHAHAHA He had no problem signing off on excessive spending bills when the Republicans were running Congress.

And he can just keep doing this to us, any day, any time, any place, until he is out of office. And he will. THere is a remedy somewhere for this, but it is not nice, and it is not pretty.

530 days to go Are we going to have to start an America Held Hostage thread?

I'll be the first to sign on. It's one thing for the opposing team to lambaste him but he's all but lost his home team as well. All it would take is for him to crack down on illegals and he'd have the majority back on the band wagon. Why can't he and the GOP grasp that with '08 looming?

suggesting that failure to pass a guest-worker program could trigger a labor shortage in the United States.

That is very funny, politicians used to cry about job shortages, now they cry about too many jobs.

If the Democrats accept Bush's logic here, as they seem to be on the same page with Bush regarding the need to import workers, then they will be arguing, "There are too many jobs and not enough jobs".

Where there is a labor shortage in industry-X, X needs to cajole employees away from industry-Y. This increases the valuablness of both employee-X and employee-Y, increases their wages, and narrows the gap between rich and poor like the Democrats pretend they want.

Absolutely in-effing-credible! Either he just plain does not get it, or he refuses to get it and will continue trying to force shamnesy down our throats. He is determined to turn our country into a third world-socialist-balkanized-multi-lingual-tower-of-bable hell hole.

I’m fed up with Demopublicans and Republicrats! The only difference between the majority of the two parties in Babylon-on-the-Potomac is the degree of selling the USA down the river to PC “special interests”.

Leaving the borders wide-open during a war is unconscionable. Impugning the character of those who want a closed border is detestable.

If you ever want to make a Bush fan squirm, just point those two things out to them. Their eyes glaze over.

Thank you for the day count. I am starting counting right now. I know the democrat spies who come here to read our stuff love this, but Holy George is criminally stubborn, arrogant disloyal and presumptuous. I guess that about covers it. Please note: I never said he was stupid.
