MINNEAPOLIS Authorities investigating the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge are looking for a person who was in a kayak below or near the bridge when it tumbled into the Mississippi River last week, Minneapolis Police Capt. Mike Martin said Wednesday.
"We need to talk to that person," Martin said.

There’s nothing unusual about kayaks in rivers. I’ve paddled that section of river before - even gone though the locks in a sea kayak on multiple occasions. It’s kinda cool.
LOL. True enough.
Kayaker.
Whatever happened to the rumor a two car train was traversing the tracks under the bridge? True or false?
Nonsense... what on earth for?! ;)
“Whatever happened to the rumor a two car train was traversing the tracks under the bridge? True or false?”
Dunno.
Having a bridge fall on you while you’re kayaking would really be some sucky luck. Hope it didn’t happen.
I guess they want to see if he made it out alive or not, so they know whether or not to continue searching for him.
There was a train under the bridge, but I don’t know if it was moving or just parked there.
He's not availabe right now. He has a headache.

I saw pictures of bridge wreckage on top of two tank cars, but there were other tank cars ahead of those two. The bridge did not land on a manned locomotive or a slug (the unmanned engines behind the manned, lead locomotive).
Remember that guy in Baghdad that drove his truck off a bridge just before an American smart bomb knocked it down in the Gulf War? The one Schwartzkopf called “the luckiest man in Baghdad” during his briefing? If the train was moving when the bridge landed on the cars, the crew of the loco are going to supplant that guy as the luckiest people around a bridge collapse.
Folks, think about it this way:
The police are obviously assuming this kayaker may have made it out alive, and that is why they made the statement. Otherwise, why would they single out this one “victim”, when there are many who died without such scrutiny?
You don’t have to read to deeply between the lines to suspect the police are concerned about the kayaker’s activities.
I still suspect the Somalians. They're publicly bitchin about the collapse.
But then again, they complain about everthing.
They announced on the news here last night that they wanted to talk to everyone who witnessed the collapse. They have already talked to all the drivers who survived and now are looking for passers by who saw it happen.
They are doing what amounts to accident re-construction.
I also hear they now have three different videos of the collapse and are looking for more cell phone video etc..
Screaming: "The Sky is Falling, the Sky is Falling"
Interesting cover. Who would ever suspect a Kayaker ? No one could have stopped him from land since there was no entry point from land. They could have easily pasted charges onto this bridges support pylons which were at the waters edge. Now a scuba diver could have been completely undetected, but would have caused problems with the charges and detonator. You could keep em dry in the Kayak. Just speculating of course.
