I'm a huge fan of giving power to Brussels, said Brown policy adviser

Britain’s seat at the UN Security Council will eventually be handed to the European Union, Lord Malloch Brown, the Foreign Office Minister, has suggested.

The former diplomat was brought in by Gordon Brown to help to overhaul foreign policy was already under fire for suggesting that Britain and America would no longer be “joined at the hip”.

He faces fresh controversy after it emerged that last October, when he was Deputy General Secretary of the UN, he spoke approvingly of growing EU representation on a visit to Brussels last October.

According to a report by the EU Observer, he told Brussels diplomats that the EU was heading toward one single seat within the UN institutions. He said: “I think it will go in stages. We are going to see a growing spread of it institution by institution. It is not going to happen with a flash and a bang.” He added that he hoped that it would happen “as quickly as possible. I’m a huge fan of it.”

Well, they vote these people in.

It says a lot about a people that they don’t like themselves.

Yes they do, as do we, then scratch our heads when we see our country headed to hell in a hand basket.

It says a lot about a people that they don’t like themselves.

That describes our liberals and leftist perfectly.

Nobody elected that git B*ll*ck-Brown.

Of course we the British people DID elect this Labour govt: hopefully not a mistake we’ll be repeating.

Just curious - I wonder why this individual thought Great Britains's seat would be appropriate instead of the French seat? Come to that, a single EU seat ought to replace both of them. It may be amusing to hear the French objecting to relinquishing this manifestation of their independence, but relinquish it they will.

All the talk has centered around this giving the EU a "voice" in the UN, but the real meat of the matter is the UNSC veto power that goes with it. For some reason nobody seems to be talking about that...

From what I've read, france won't lose their seat. Now, if someone could please explain to me how they are able to keep their seat if the EU is to have a collective vote.

but the real meat of the matter is the UNSC veto power that goes with it. For some reason nobody seems to be talking about that...

I wonder why myself.

Maybe its because I’m feeling a little down today, but I think Hillary being President is a foregone conclusion.

Optimistic. The real question is:
Will the winners (Berlin and Brussels) even allow the Brits to vote again to change their victory?
I think not.

We didn’t vote Brown in as PM. America did vote the Dems in. America doesn’t like itself.

They have no choice, we have a veto.

I wonder if the US will get a veto when Bush hands you over to the North American Union. . . . .

How could any sane person vote for the party of a man who wants to prohibit the expression “Islamic terrorism”? How could the public accept such an Orwellian proposition?

I'm not worrying about it because it won't happen.
