Madeleine 'died in her bedroom' TANYA THOMPSON SOCIAL AFFAIRS CORRESPONDENT (tthompson@scotsman.com)
* Portugese detectives now claim Madeleine McCann was not kidnapped * Specks of her blood on wall suggest she died in apartment * Friends of McCanns in UK placed under police surveillance
Child disappears without a trace from a hotel room. 9 out 10 times the victim is killed by a parent, sibling or friend. Based on their negligence I would have suspected the parents immediately.
Just making a smart-assed remark. If you missed the humor, to bad.
True. Apparently the police found Maddies blood in the McCanns car. The theory that they - both doctors - accidentialy overdosed her on sedatives sounds most likely to me though.
I bet they didn’t do blood tests on the twins. Sickening.
I think both could still be a possibility.
I find it bizarre that they would sit within view of the door. I do not find that a safe enough procaution.
On the other hand, I admit I do not have enough information to have a strong opinion one way or the other.
I will be interested in watching this case to see what other facts come to light.
Have they done DNA on the blood? Do they know for certain it is Maddie's?
Parallel thread here with 9/7 news reports that Madelaine’s mother has been offered a plea deal - but that would be Portugese justice system, not Britain (or US) so don’t know what that means.

I can understand how a dog could tell the difference between a dead body smell and a live one, but how long will the scent remain? When were these dogs on the scene? From the article, it looks like it wasn’t until recently. A dog can smell dead body traces from 3 months ago?
1. The previous night or the one before that, the parents left the children alone in the room. Madeliene got very upset and was HOWLING - Daddy, Daddy, Daddy. The other guests complained and the couple was brought back from their social gathering to attend to her by the hotel management.
2. The police have been unable to nail down when was the last time Maddie was seen alive by someone other than her parents. It appears that it may have been as early as 2:00 PM. Meaning no one saw Maddie alive, other than the parents, from 2 PM to 10 PM when she was reported missing.
3. No one has been able to ascertain who among the group friends actually checked on the children and at what times. (The McCanns were having tapas with 9 friends that evening and they supposedly took turns - every 15 minutes checking on the children. However, the exact times and who saw Maddie are unclear.)
4. When the mother discovered Maddie missing, she ran back to the restaurant (about 100 yards) screaming "They have taken her." This is suspicious because a.)wouldn't her first reaction be to assume Maddie had wandered off, b.) why the plural "they," c.)why - if she thought someone had kidnapped her daughter - would she leave her twins alone in the hotel room. Why not call the hotel staff or her husband on a cell phone?
5. The Portuguese police failed miserably upon arrival, not securing the crime scene, not questioning the parents and friends separately, not even searching the room thoroughly, and much more. However the twins slept through the whole thing.
6. McCanns embark on worldwide media blitz.
7. The hapless Portuguese begin investigating the possibility of a stranger abduction, pedophile ring, Satan ritualists, white slavery, black baby market, etc. They even tried to frame an innocent person, searching his house, digging up his garden and destroying his reputation in the media.
8. The British media published every single blunder the Porties made in screaming type.
9. The Portuguese were forced to ask British LE for help.
10. The Brits sent cadaver and trace evidence dogs along with other forensic specialists. They sent information to a lab that is best CSI-type place in Europe.
11. It was revealed that "English Dogs" smelled death in the apt where Maddie disappeared, in the floor of a closet there, in the trunk of a car rented after the disappearance, in Kate McCann's clothing and in a stuffed hippopotamus (Cuddle Cat) that was the girls favorite toy. This has been video taped and is admissible as "something."
12. Madeliene's DNA was found in the apt and it appeared to have been washed.
13. Kate McCann was caught admitting to have washed Cuddle Cat.
14. Both parents were questioned separately (1st time), with lawyer present (1st time), and named official suspects.
15. Their friends from the Tapas bar night will now be reinterviewed on Monday.
16. Over 55 British LE, including detectives, forensic specialists, scientists and officers in their home town are working on the case. (The latter looking for background information.)
my memory from the earlier story is that she was in bed with her brother? if she were murdered violently enough for blood to have splattered, would he has slept through that?
One of the reasons that the Portuguese police didn’t know what to do is that they were out of practice. Abductions and crimes against children just don’t happen there. I have visited the same area with my daughters (they were teens), and I was impressed with how safe it was.
If it should turn out that the parents were responsible —— how is this going to impact another abduction that is the real thing?
Watching the Susan Smith “tears” and the “anguish” of these parents —— who is going to believe a similar tragedy?
You did not mention one other fact which has set the WebSleuth boards ablaze - - the parents, I believe it was the father, have admitted to sedating the 3 children so they would sleep while the parents were out drinking/eating at a tapas bar with their 7 other friends (the “Tapas 9”). The police found the syringes in a dresser.
Your post is excellent, but there is so much error and confusion in the other posts in this thread. Everyone who is sincerely interested in Maddie should go to:
