Yesterday, Mitt Romney went into Iowa radio host Jan Mickelsons studio for a conversation about politics. At least it should have been about politics. Instead, Mickelson decided he wanted to grill Romney on the Mormon church and Mormon theology. (I also thought Mickelsons comments on politics, namely that the President should overrule the Supreme Court when in the Presidents opinion the Court oversteps its bounds, were a tad on the screwy side as well.)
Mickelsons station, WHO, had a video recorder on the governor that was recording his off-air comments, something that Romney was unaware of. On the air, Mickelson stated that according to Mormon theology, Romney should have been excommunicated from the Mormon Church because he was once pro-choice. Off the air, Romney tried to gently tell Mickelson that he didnt know what he was talking about. Although Ive never heard even a snippet of Mickelsons show before today, I bet Mickelson holding forth on something he knows nothing about happens on a not infrequent basis. The off air exchange (that once again Romney didnt know was being taped) was at times heated. WHO today posted the footage on its website.

See posts #213 and #240. It’s not an ego thing; rather, it’s a fabrication thing by EV. Notice how EV has not quoted any text from the Constitution or cited any Constitutional jurisprudence to support EV’s asinine assertion that the President can repudiate a pronouncement by the Supreme Court.
If you’re a trained lawyer, you’re not a very good one. All of your arguments have already been shown to be specious, silly, and flat-out wrong.
If it wasn’t such a serious subject, it would be funny. But it’s not. Guys like you are slowly but surely eroding away the foundations of American life and liberty.
I also agree that Mitt was great in the interview - he handled it with real class and made his point very articulately. So Mitt’s a Mormon..I’m Catholic. SO WHAT!! He believes in the SAME God that I do (ie., NOT Allah). I really can’t believe some of the truly idiotic Freeper postings regarding this hyped up religious ‘controversy’. Why isn’t Obama under the same scrutiny?? Everyone can tell that he’s a Muslim in Christian’s clothing. ENOUGH ALREADY!
Spare the rhetoric. Your position is utterly without merit. You have quoted no text from the Constitution nor have you cited any Constitutional jurisprudence to support your contention.
Predictably, you completely ignore the practical ramifications of your wacky position; to wit, Clinton repudiating the Bush v. Gore decision by the Supreme Court and issuing an executive order requiring the ballots to be counted. This IS a serious subject and your position would result in anarchy.
Ironically, you’re guilty of the exact things you accuse me of.
You have utterly failed to show how our Constitution authorizes a system in which the judicial branch is supreme, or in which the other two branches don’t have a co-equal duty to interpret and enforce the Constitution.
Like most lawyers, you’ve had common sense educated out of your head. You strain at gnats, and swallow camels.
You think we’re governed by the courts.
Conversely, I know that we are governed by God, ourselves, and the Constitution. The courts are subservient to God, His laws, the people, and that Constitution.
The courts have their role, their rightful sphere. But, it is one that has practically ceased to be checked or balanced by the Executive and the Legislative branches, to our country’s great harm.
Because of people who think like you do.
Your broad, sweeping assertions have been easily shown to be wrong, but you’re just too proud of your exalted education to admit it.
When the host says that it's 'off the record' then it shouldn't have been released without Romney's consent. It was a piece of dishonest journalism.
I'm not a veteran, so I guess I don't count. Thus, the insane, "9-11 is our fault"-bleating Paul probably doesn't want my vote, and I'll be pleased to not give it to him.
“Ironically, youre guilty of the exact things you accuse me of.” It’s not ironic, EV, it’s typical Mormonism Apologist methodology to stand up a strawman they have canned responses for, ignoring what you actually posted. It is a tactic taught to them in their mission training ... some would call it lying for the Lord, but it’s just run of the mill deceit. We see lots of it at FR of late as the Romneyites pour tirelessly over any thread with a hint of Mormonism in it. Don’t let their misdirection/deceit methodology tie you in knots as it’s designed to do.
Does Jim Robinson know you are flakking for a third party here at FR?
Are you stating that Mormon missionaries are taught to lie during their training?
Did not say that; missionaries are taught to deceive when a direct question is too difficult to answer, to answer the question ‘they ought to have been asked’. I’m sure you’re familiar with this tactic. There is a net video where the technique is explained if you want it posted.
Make up your mind here. Post your video if you'd like.
As to the stance of the Mormon Church, I'm not a Mormon, so I don't know the details. But my understanding is that it takes a position that abortion is morally wrong, and it forbids its members from getting them or assisting someone in getting one. However, it does not take a position on whether it should be illegal, so it's permissible to be "pro-choice" and be a Mormon.
Mormon freepers, please correct me if I am mistakenp>
Prior to Jackson, SCOTUS had ruled that the Constitution allowed for a national bank. It did not rule that the Constitution required a national bank. Therefore, by vetoing national bank legislation, Jackson in no way was defying any court decision. All he was doing was preventing the national bank's charter from being renewed, and that in no way went against the SCOTUS decision.
If Jackson had really believed what you believe about the ability of the president to defy a court decision, why did he wait for the Bank's charter to expire? According to your interpretation of the constition, he could have simply declared the bank unconstitutional and taken Federal Troops to shut it down by executive order. Why didn't he do that?
Speaking of lying... why or how would you know that missionaries are taught in their mission training to lie? This is getting really old MHGinTN!
“He destroyed the GOP in Massachusetts, and implemented more of the radical Lefts agenda than has ever been implemented anywhere.”
Again, I ask if you are from MA??? If you were from MA you would not have made such a moronic statement!
Once again you try to mischaracterize what I posted. That identifies your spirit, seven. See my response to sandude above.
I did, you are claiming to have a video that proves missionaries are taught to lie. That would seem to identify your spirit, MHGinTN. Let’s see.
No, I was not claiming they are taught to lie, I was claiming that they are taught to deceive, byt avoiding directquestions they have trouble with and answering instead the question ‘they ought to have been asked.’ But you tried again to mischaracterize what I wrote in response to sandude above. This is becoming a very obvious statement of the spirit you have within you, mischaracterizing repeatedly!
JCE - thanks for your post because those are just a few of the reasons that I support this man.
