Yesterday, Mitt Romney went into Iowa radio host Jan Mickelson’s studio for a conversation about politics. At least it should have been about politics. Instead, Mickelson decided he wanted to grill Romney on the Mormon church and Mormon theology. (I also thought Mickelson’s comments on politics, namely that the President should overrule the Supreme Court when in the President’s opinion the Court oversteps its bounds, were a tad on the screwy side as well.)
Mickelson’s station, WHO, had a video recorder on the governor that was recording his off-air comments, something that Romney was unaware of. On the air, Mickelson stated that according to Mormon theology, Romney should have been excommunicated from the Mormon Church because he was once pro-choice. Off the air, Romney tried to gently tell Mickelson that he didn’t know what he was talking about. Although I’ve never heard even a snippet of Mickelson’s show before today, I bet Mickelson holding forth on something he knows nothing about happens on a not infrequent basis. The off air exchange (that once again Romney didn’t know was being taped) was at times heated. WHO today posted the footage on its website.

You know, you have an absolute fixation on Mitt Romney. Why don’t you get over it? You jump on every thread that refers to Romney to smear him, continually. What’s your basic problem in life? You sound like Keith Olbermann on PMSNBC where every nite he feels driven and compelled to jump on Bill O’Reilly’s bones. Almost every night he knocks BOR and goes on and on. Just like you with Romney. It’s just so sickening, and if you have religious beliefs, you sure aren’t practicing them. The word mindlessly vindictive comes to mind.
The biggest complaint about Mitt Romney is that he is a flip flopper. The fear is that you can’t take his words at face value. He might advance other words and actions when it suits him. Is he sincere? Is he steadfast?
These attacks on Mitt have an obvious opportunistic quality. They gang up and repeat, and repeat, and repeat. There is the constant nipping at his heels. They are mostly sound-bite arguments. The attacks that I've examined have not held up. They are beginning to seem mean-spirited.
Still the questions remain: Who is the real Mitt Romney? Is there a there there? It is ironic that the sins of the Democrats - Kerry, Clinton, and others - are visited on a Republican - Romney. I think Romney is sincere and steadfast. He is the real deal. Yes, it’s wise to question, but it’s not worldly or smart to be a perpetual cynic.

but to tape Mitt while they were on break and then release that is a bit sneaky and not what talkshow hosts do...wouldn’t you say? It sounded like Romney handled the interview well. Why isn’t Romney allowed the freedom of really seeing that he was wrong about the right to an abortion? And his fiscal policies were not liberal as you say...from everything that I have read.
Seems there's a lot of people who believe "It's MY way of worshipping God, or it's a cult."
Ironically Obama belongs to a Church that is outside the norm and in addition comes from a Muslim background. Mormon theology is, by my standard, bizarre, but Obama’s Church is even further away from Christian orthodoxy.
I’ve sat in that chair. The room is about the size of a large closet. The idea that Mitt Romney couldn’t see the camera three feet away with the red light on is ludicrous.
Don’t kid yourself. Romney still isn’t pro-life.

I listened to the entire video. Mitt did very, very well in pointing out that he is not running to be America’s religious leader but to be America’s President.
The best part was when he asked Jan: “My church teaches against the use of alcohol; so as President, do you want me to ban the right for all Americans to choose whether or not to drink alcohol?” And then he said: “My faith is for ME, not for me to force it on all Americans.”

Only if you will take a valium and tone down your personal venom for Mitt Romney. Which means I’ll probably be holding my breath for quite a while as I don’t think you’ve got it in you to quit slamming Romney. It’s in your blood.

No, being constantly nasty and mean towards Romney is your thing. And I must admit you are very good at it,... being vicious and cruel, that is, against a man who would only be honorable and a gentleman in your presence. But I guess you couldn’t relate to that.
You would say that as a supporter of the non-candidate. But Romney is leading the early primary states. And by a large margin.
Meanwhile, non-candidate drags his rats around with his flute.
Wow, really intelligent contribution--comparing someone who's actually LIVED under Romney and thus knows what it means to have him in charge and thus supports someone else a "rat".
So I guess I have to support Mitt because, uh, he's ahead in some poll? You offer no reason other than that to support him other than that he's in the lead in a poll. Who's the one being led by a pied piper?
This place sure has gone down hill.
BTW, at this time in the election, Ronald Reagan hadn't declared yet--I guess his supporters then were rats, too.
