BREAKING NEWS: Funnel cloud seen near Sierra Vista
Published on Friday, August 03, 2007
SIERRA VISTA The National Weather Service and several local residents on Friday afternoon said that they saw a funnel cloud in the Sierra Vista area.
The weather service, in a special weather statement, said that several storm spotters and law enforcement reported a funnel cloud near the Huachuca Mountains, just west of Sierra Vista, between 1:45 to 1:55 p.m.
Marshall Bryan, who lives on Shawnee Drive in Hereford, said he saw a funnel cloud east of his home as he was mowing his yard Friday afternoon.
The weather service said Doppler radar showed a strong thunderstorm in the area, but it did not have signs of a strong rotation.
Funnel clouds like this usually do not last very long, the agency said in its statement.
