This smells like a setup from the start a la Valerie Plame. The difference being that Valerie and her dimwitted husband were active participants in the anti-Bush CIA ruse while this dimwitted kid may simply have been conned by the anti-military TNR, who told him they would cover for him. I think they should bust him and discharge him out if he comes clean, otherwise throw the book at him.
