OAKLAND -- Heavily armed police officers using flash grenades stormed the Your Black Muslim Bakery early Friday, detaining as many as 19 people -- including the organization's leader Yusuf Bey IV -- and seizing a small armory of weapons including shotguns and ammunition for assault weapons.
It was not immediately known if the raids -- at the bakery and three other Oakland homes -- were related to the sidewalk assassination of Oakland reporter Chauncey Bailey. Sources say he was doing an investigative piece on the troubled splinter group not associated with the Black Muslims.
Oakland Deputy Police Chief Howard Jordan would not comment if the raids connection to Bailey's slaying.
"These raids were (launched) to seek evidence in several violent felonies including murder, robbery and kidnapping," Jordan said.
Sources have confirmed to KTVU that the raids were in connection to three murders in the last six weeks in Oakland including Bailey's murder.
Authorities said that four search warrants had been issued and the raid of the bakery at 59th and San Pablo in Oakland triggered the start of the law enforcement crackdown by officers from San Leandro, Fremont as well as Oakland related to an ongoing investigation stemming back "at least a year".

Note that the sympathetic press already has a defense line started: "they were troubled."
Also, every Black Muslim group is technically a "splinter group," as the original Black Muslims are now called the Nation of Islam. Why does the article seek to minimize this group, one of the largest Black Muslim groups?

This raid was prevented for years by the former Oakland Mayor, Moonbeam Brown, who is now the Ca AG.
The Oakland cops knew where the well dressed Black Islamo Thugs, who trashed liquor stores and killed each other were coming from. Apparently, Moonbeam Brown as usual refused to allow the cops to end the violence.
Good point GD. And the folks at KTVU must be in fear of their lives reporting this even if they watered it down...
They have come a long way when they showed the well dressed thugs on liquor store videos breaking bottles, while KTVU was claiming there was no identification of these individuals on their late night news.
I sent them an email to check out the local Black Muslim organizations, and they would know who the well dressed terrorists were. No answer of course.
I'll never forget how nervous the people in THE STORE were about all those militants marchin around town filled with way too much unjustified self-esteem!!!
