Romney says Homeland Security Department should be restructured

PELHAM, N.H. (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is criticizing 1 of President Bush's chief domestic security accomplishments.

At a campaign appearance in New Hampshire, Romney said the Department of Homeland Security is inefficient and requires major restructuring. He says the department does some things well, but is hampered by the fact that it's made up of different agencies that he says are "stuck in one big bureaucracy."

Romney says there's a lot of duplication of effort in Washington and he would like to "take the place apart" and put it back together -- smaller, simpler and smarter.

Another challenge, according to Romney, is that the department has to answer to both the White House and Congress, which has oversight. That, he says, creates an ineffective system.

If he were president, Romney says he would shift department dollars from an emphasis on first responders to prevention through intelligence.

He really is setting himself apart from the pack. Win or lose, he's currently the only candidate out there offering specific ideas and solutions.

Romney's plan:
1) Emulate Hezbollah's 'social' pogroms overseas [RomneyCARE-2=HezbollahCARE]
2) Defund first responders here, to help Hebollah, Hamas and America's enemies.
2) Inflict socialized medicine on America [RomneyCARE-1=HillaryCARE] without a vote,
3) Continue MA-style gay indoctrination in elementary schools without a vote, and
4) Continue attacks on Republicans and general citizenry with Romney's fake troopers sporting fake badges

He is SUCH a CEO! I’ve worked for so many, and he just strikes me as an efficient, hard-driving CEO.

Romney is better than Giuliani or McCain... that’s as far as I’ll go.

1. Remodel DHS to be more like the KGB;
2. Copy Hezbollah for social welfare outreaching;
3. Make Amtrak more like what Mussolini achieved;
4. Govern America like Romney did Massachusetts.

Well I guess its an improvement. If I had my way I would get rid of the entire “Homeland Security” department altogether along with the TSA and other entities pushed on the public during the hype of post-911. I frankly cannot see why the Defense Department cannot fulfill the role of “homeland security” as it did for over 200 years.

That was my thought when the Dept. of Homeland Security was first created. But, the people demanded action and what better way to do so than to create a whole new Department? Oh well. Consolidation certainly makes sense to me.

He also said we should model ourselves after Hezbollahstan. Sort of hard to know where his ideas are going sometimes.

That was probably my first comment ever about Romney. I have tried to reserve judgment. But that Hezbollah thing the other day, tells me I don’t need to be so reserved.

~”But that Hezbollah thing the other day, tells me I don’t need to be so reserved.”~

Hold the phone!

What Romney actually said was that Hezbollah gets its strength in the middle east by winning the hearts and minds of the people through social outreach. In this, Romney is objectively correct. He said that we need to emulate Hezbollah’s social outreach efforts in order to win hearts and minds ourselves. Now, you can agree or disagree with that approach; but it’s not the threatening message you are determined to portray it as.

People get offended at everything. Good grief.

Hey listen buster! We're at threat level "Code Orange." No one knows just what the hell that means, but it's important to know just in case someone asks.

So just keep the shades drawn, hide under the bed, don't travel with toothpaste, keep our borders open, and we'll all be just fine.

Isn't that the Bert level, where America must emulate Bert?
