Ha! Well, this wasn't a campaign letter, but one in response to an 'enlightening' email I sent during the immigration fiasco. So it came from his Senate staff. But, then again, maybe they've quit, too. Hmmmmm.

IIR the exact quote correctly it was "I actually DID vote in favor of the 87 billion, before I voted against it."

Of course he also voted for the war only to turn against it in the Democrat primaries leading up to 2004.

good question. i searched around and found that quote was attributed to kerry on several sites but i have not found a direct source siting the moment he said it. it could be that people are paraphrasing his comments. in any case “I was for the war before I was against the war” has become kerry’s legacy.
