You had a Victory Garden. I don’t think most people are overly concerned about their food supply, if they were we wouldn’t be in the pickle we are in now. It’s all part of an instant gratification, live for the moment mentality that has permeated our culture. You grew your own, and it took time. Imagine the average Americans willingness to wait for the right moment to plan, then to nurture and finally to harvest. Not there anymore.
Good for you. By the way, my favorite way to cook butternut squash is baked with brown sugar and just a dab of butter.

Thanks. Even when there was failure. I found that even it was better than not having had the experience.

I have met some people who did not believe that there is a difference between store bought and home grown tomatoes and it shocked the hell out of me. Like to them it was all just food.

Thats how I like the butternuts as well.

I can’t wait to move back South so I can have a garden again. MA soil is so rocky, and the growing season is so short, it’s just a pain to dig a garden out in the back yard. We do have some local farms, though, so it’s good to be able to buy locally grown produce.
