PARIS President Chirac could become the first former French president to be questioned over alleged criminal acts while in office. Judges intend to question Mr. Chirac in the coming weeks despite his claims of immunity from prosecution.
Recently discovered documents suggest Mr. Chirac could be at the heart of the Clearstream scandal described as the French Watergate. Judges will question his former prime minister, Dominique de Villepin, on September 13.

This is WAY overdue. I hope they get him.
Chirac won’t do time, but just like Kohl...he will be a uninvited politician to all future country events. Kohl got caught, and shockingly enough...none of the money he accepted went into his own pocket...the guy turned to the party members who were within five points of winning in regional races and tossed most of the cash at them.
We’ve always known that Chirac was a corrupt insider. His dealings with Saddam over the years, and with Kofi Annan as a chief sponsor and banker for the oil for food program are just some of the dirt that is well known.
What’s surprising is that this is getting into the media. Even if he worms off the hook, it will stain him.
Probably so, but he should be publicly disgraced.
Oh, my. I knew this was going to happen, sooner or later.
