Well.......
If we are going to cast aspersions on a group of people for keeping snakes, I would say turnabout is fair play.
People who say “Kill snakes” because they fear them out of Ignorance sound very much to me like an avreage moonbat liberal.
Snakes (non-venomous) have NO comparison to pitbulls in danger. I keep 5 snakes. 3 Kings, 1 Eastern Milk and a Yellow Anaconda. Have I been bitten? Yes. I also have cats. Guess what? I’ve been bitten and scratched. I’d rather be snake bit.
Advantages to snakes:
They do not bark, howl, or meow at night.
They do not poop on the carpet
They do not chew shoes up
They do not shed fur everywhere
They only feed weekly
People who keep reptiles are just like you, except we actually know something about the animals that you have irrational fears about.
Snakes will not retrieve waterfowl, especially cripples.
Snakes will not swim through sewage in New Orleans looking for dead bodies (Like my Lab did)
Snakes will not greet you at the door with sloppy kisses after you've had a hard day at work.
Snakes will not bark when someone pulls up in the driveway.
Snakes will not help you pick up chicks.
I can stand a little dog hair in my food for those benefits.
I don’t fear snakes, I just hate them and kill them where ever I find them. I had the pleasure of killing a copperhead in my flower bed just about a month ago.
Very important distinction in that statement.
I used to 'keep' snakes. Spent the winter with two copperheads once.
After watching those snakes all winter I finalized that "keeping' them was exactly what I was doing.
You can take a dog to the park and play frisbee or to the duck blind to retrieve Mallards. He's a pet, a friend even. And most dogs will stand up for you if they think you're being attacked.
I ain't a cat person but I can see the relationship.
Cats and dogs aren't 'kept'. They're family and friends.
But snakes.....they're just on display.
I let those copperheads go in the spring and haven't 'kept' one since. I've caught several since then but I always put them back where they should be. In the wild.
Good post, ignorance abounds and it’s hilarious!
