Majestic America Line Announces Farewell Celebration Throughout 2008 for the Legendary Delta Queen.
Congress has decided not to enact legislation to grant the historic ship a statutory exemption; Ship will continue sailings through November 2008.

Sad, sad news. The Delta Queen steamboat has been operating since 1927. She was almost forced to retire in 1970 because of her all wooden superstructure but Congress passed an exemption.

That’s a shame, but one only has to read about the Gen. Slocum incident to realize it’s probably for the best. Still, it’s a shame.

This news makes me want to weep. We were on the Delta Queen several years ago - one of the absolute best cruises we've ever done. It's quite obvious those ding-dongs in Congress who are blocking this have never set foot on her.
Idiots.
