Just turned on the news. 35W bridge collapsed in the Mississippi River. Cars, trucks, semis.....
Fires burning, tanker trucks, at least one school bus, more than ten cars......
Just now breaking.......
“but either mistakes in design OR improper construction OR improper materials OR unaccounted corrosion/lack of proper maintenance can lead to a failure.”
You are absolutely correct. These things can all happen, and do...just not often. As you know, design goes through many levels of approval, construction methods are inspected by PEs, a percentage of all steel materials from the warehouse or mill are inspected for bad spots, and all specs and general notes have guidelines for storage and handling of all material. Again, you are right, one of these things could happen, I just don’t want people to think that the load of gridlock traffic isn’t taken into consideration when designing a bridge.
And how would they know? I hate these premature assurances.
Homeland Security already declared this to be a non -terrorist event. Two hours after the collapse. With not one little bit of inspection or investigation. They are all psychics over there at HS...or all psychos.
Resonance occurs in things mechanical and can literally tear a structure apart;in the old days Tesla is reported to have stopped some experiments involving low power mechanical devices when the building began to shake. Few things are as repetitive as a jackhammer.I've also been in a position to feel the ground shaking a dozen yards away from an unmuffled large-bore IC gasoline engine (evidently there was a buried shelf of rock).
Things were blowing up not down according to the woman in the red car.
I'm also an engineer. Seems to me that dropping a bridge as completely as this would be a huge undertaking for Jonnie Jihadist. This wasn't terrorism.
SOP
Said there are at least 50 cars involved with one firefighter stating at least 100 cars with only 50 visible.
Little flash-back there Bro?
Channel 5 reports that injuries are streaming into local hospitals (HCMC, Fairview Riverside and U of M Hospitals)...
Local sunset is at 8:39 PM CDT. They have an hour and twenty minutes. Not long in a rescue operation.
As of last weekend the entire north bound side was closed and the sout bound side was down to one lane due to the construction.
Thank you coder2.

Exactly what I said. The Cypress Structure was a two level section of freeway that was jam packed with commuters. We lived there in ‘89 and I’m happy we are out of there.
The firemen I know (and my sister used to live in a neighborhood heavily populated by firemen) would be heading in without waiting to be told. I imagine they’re the same in Minneapolis.
Explosives only have to be placed on the supports and the ongoing construction would be great cover to place the explosives. Wouldn’t be able to see evidence of that, as it would be covered by the bridge. Fox reporting eyewitness accounts of explosions/things exploding.
I'm so mad at DHS right now that I could spit. At least it took them longer than usual to declare that terrorism is not involved.
Had they been in existance before 9/11, I'm convinced they would have said the same about the Twin Towers, Pentagon, and PA.
Government sucks.
Have any of the tin-foiled conspiracy theorists ascribed it to the WH yet?
