Just turned on the news. 35W bridge collapsed in the Mississippi River. Cars, trucks, semis.....
Fires burning, tanker trucks, at least one school bus, more than ten cars......
Just now breaking.......
We’ll see. The “bedrock” layer can be pretty far down.
You’re right, it was the primaries where he was running vs Kerry not in 2000. My mistake, thanks.
It sure didn’t sound like a joke to me. She got picked on for it and came back with an affirmation of her opinion.
No doubt she’s missing Paula Zahn over there lol! Two peas in a pod. Gorgeous without four brain cells between them.
You’re kidding right? No, we haven’t gone around the bend that far. Heck, it was only about 2 years ago that JC Penney’s here even put the hours and welcome sign on their doors in Spanish as well as English.
Do you know where are these photos supposedly from? Just curious. That is a crazy photo, if not photoshopped.
Yikes.
;^)
JACK STANDS HOLDING UP TWIN- SPAN BRIDGE?
The above photo comes from a DEAD PELICAN reader who claims that there are several areas under the twin bridges that have jacks placed between the support column and the roadway under-section. We are told that some of these jacks cannot reach as far as they need to contact the cement. In order to make contact with the cement 4X4 pieces of lumber are inserted between the jacks and the bridge under-sections. Our source claims that these photos were taken while fishing.
Those are screw jacks(new). Those 2 can’t hold up ALL that concrete above. They can be put there and tightened temporarily to support only what’s intended for that support alone. Those screws can never be tightened to lift the weight above it. They’re too amall. As they are being used, it’s unsafe. There shold be plates there to distribute the load. Otherwise, if the concrete sits on that, it will get broken up. That’s an expansion joint and they might be there to HOLD it in place while work is being done on a bearing, but there’s still no heavy plates there to distribute the stress and the screw can’t be used to adjust the concrete so a bearing fix ends up in the right place. hydraulic jacks should be used to do that. They just won’t keep the position stable, because they creep. Screw jacks are used to hold, or to lift something withinn their capacity. THose are too small. It’s also 1/2 of an expansion joint, so they’ll tip, or break concrete when the slab moves. Concretebob might be able to elaborate. I don’t know what’s inside, or what they’re up to.
Thanks.
Again—yikes! :^O
They're useless for what's implied. Could be those jack stands belong to this guy and he lives in a trailer... down by the river...
Lol, fricking Drive By Media, lot's of info, but it is not accurate.
Not that there wasn't a good deal of denial. The news anchor on ABC's "Good Morning America" (whose name I forget) disbelieved that a plane had struck the tower, accidentally or not.
> “If the engineer sees somehting like a bridge containing fatigue cracks, or even unsafe stress levels, his duty is to inform both the exec and the public, because it’s public property and safety involved.”
That is exactly what is done now. The reports that they are finally digging up now state the condition and are a matter of public record. There are something like 70,000 or something bridges in the US that have lower ratings than this one. My local newspaper just published the ratings of several nearby bridges. Do you think they would waste one line of print on that before this? Your belief it the integrity and rationality of politicians is touching. I have not had that experience. They really, really are slime.
I have the "don't be evil" spyware blocked too, but anyone who doubts that it's there need only view the source for the page and they'll see it's there, right at the bottom of the page's HTML.
I checked it with two browsers AND samspade, which downloaded the raw content including headers (which NO browser will show, to my knowledge), and it IS there. It's not something I've stupidly "allowed" google to insert into my browser. It's on the FR server. Check for yourselves, people.
[Paranoia mode: if you *don't* have it -- or, if only *some* of you have it -- it means that FR has an option to selectively track *some* people. But it is definitely coming from their server.]

I agree,,,It sorta looks like BS to me,,,But,,,
Strange things happen in this world,,,
JMHO : Chad has a good site and for the most part it’s
“Take it to the bank info.”
Back to topic : I’ve been hearing about “repairs” to the
35W bridge,,,4ft. piece of steel plate I think,,,
Maybe the halfass repair didn’t hold ?...:0/
Gee - I’m embarrassed!
I checked DC and it seemed accurate. Rock Creek Parkway in DC has tons of old brick & sandstone bridges with trees growing out of them. Very picturesque, but really scary.
Will try VA & VT and FReepmail you if it works.
Sheriff’s office just finished briefing on dive operations — additional cars found but no victims. Don’t know yet whether they got out and are o.k. or if swept out and missing. Two cars can’t get to. One on top of another and second wedged in superstructure. Will try to pull the second out tomorrow, weather permitting (storms expected).
ME spokesman gave update — five persons dead, all identified. He came from the Holiday Inn where the families are waiting. He choked up when he told how the families wanted to come over to the dive command post and cook meals for the divers for what they are doing. He said we have families to go home to, they don’t know whether they still have a family, was surprised at their generosity during this time.
No a.m. briefing. Next SO briefing at 1 p.m. CDT Saturday.
The only “twin spans” I know of down there is over
Lake Ponchatrain ,,,it’s 27 miles long,,,
Those jackstands look like 10 ton cap. ,,,
Makes ya’ wonder...
I was smirking with you, not at you!
