O'Reilly Factor Provides Free Republic Offending Comments Links

Edited on 08/01/2007 4:30:51 PM PDT by Admin Moderator. [history]

I received an e-mail today from the Fox News producer who booked me for the O'Reilly Factor last night. The links have been forwarded to Jim Robinson for review.

Jim asked me to start a thread with the links so that Freepers, and everyone else, could see for themselves what the fuss is about.

The Hillary Clinton stray bullet assassination comment was a very bad joke comment that someone posted two days ago. It was flagged last night after the O'Reilly Factor broadcast and was removed by a moderator. It is available for the time being in Google cache:

To: Virginia Ridgerunner I like my scenario better:

After eight years of the economy faltering, interest rates are 19%, 900,000 people are dead in Iraq since we left, taxes have gone up by 60% and Chile, Bolivia and Columbia are now Communist regimes, a stray bullet at a NARAL rally catches President Clinton and kills her.

As they take away Cindy Sheehan she screams why did she have to remove the troops? We were winning.

The next day the dow goes up 2000 points and closes at 2150.

Don't even bother trying to defend that one. Assassination jokes have no place on Free Republic. Yes, Cindy Sheehan has written of her fantasizies about killing President Bush--and she's not joking, but that's her problem. We're better than that.

The "homosexuals are dogs" comment is taken out of context. The actual quote is "Homosexuals are the modern day dogs in the manger." That was in reference to an article about proprieters in the U.K. not being allowed to deny hotel accomodations to homosexual couples on account of religious belief.

The American Heritage online dictionary gives this description for the phrase: dog in the manger, NOUN: Inflected forms: pl. dogs in the manger. One who prevents others from enjoying what one has no use for oneself. ETYMOLOGY: From a fable in which a dog prevented an ox from eating hay he did not want himself.

That comment was posted two days ago and has also been removed by the moderators. It is available for now in Google cache.

The "I hate blacks" comment was nowhere to be found in the other threads referenced.

The threads are about crime in the black community, gangsta culture and Jesse Jackson. Two of the threads are in the Smoky Backroom.

I agree with you partner ...this hammer of labeling even a site like FR as a hate site is absurd.

It’s just another way for a pompous ass like O’Reilly to preen about how fair and balanced he is....he wa looking for a foil to balance the obvious craziness at Kos.

And folks should not run for cover here to make him happy.

This whole concept of “hate” in political expression is a new politically correct smear and is usd just like calling folks racist or bigot....which O’Reilly does ad nauseum.

It is used to silence folks.

I’ve lost all respect for O’Reilly....fool me once shame on you. (the allegations of being out of line sexuallly with a staffer)

Fool me twice....(this made up smear on us)....it’s done O’Butthead. You ain’t worth spit.

Your detractors are right, O’Blowhard....you are a bully and full of yourself whalehead.

Don’t forget, he dismissed the Swifties too.

Throw in some mocking the Irish or the Brits. Then you’ll be fair and balanced!

Worse yet, to give that analogous context, CBS(radio) must be labeled a “hate network” for allowing that to go out over the airwaves. MSNBC as well, if they were televising that show at that time. That would be like labeling FR a “hate site”.

It’s even more indicative of those networks being “hate networks” than the accusation against FR because O’Reilly was invited on to display his “hate speech”. A more analogous example would be some idiot barging his way in front of a TV camera and holding up a “Kill Drudge” sign and labeling the TV network by that sign.

I post on here from time to time but I find a large number of people to be extremely hateful. Obscene comments that should never be made are made in almost every thread.

**************

I must strenuously disagree. I know I hit the abuse button when I see something that is offensive, and the majority of the time it is removed immediately. If you really are seeing so much "obscene" material here, why aren't you hitting the abuse button? For that matter, why would you remain here?

I think our Mods do a fantastic job, but the system relies on us doing our part as well.

Don’t you think that maybe your pompous lecture accusing “so many” of the same tactics as KOS, was nullified by using profanity and misspellings in your post?

Don’t blow it. We do not want to make the KOS look good.

Follow the rules like Bill does. /s

However, the better we take care of FR, the less chances we'll give people to pull stunts like O'Reilly did last night.

Unfortunately hacks like O'Reilly are going always going to cater to the lowest denominator and so even if you have a thread of a 100 great, intelligent, responses, with 1 or 2 idiotic/extremist responses, commentators like O'Reilly are going to ignore %99 of the comments and go the extreme stuff, because that's what gets them ratings.

The only good thing to come out of this, is that many FReepers now realize that Fox News Channel is not "our friend in the media" as some like to say. FNC is out to make money, first and foremost. They are going to push what sells commercials. If somebody did a study and said they could make three times as much pandering to the left, Murdoch would be on the phone to FNC execs telling them to start pandering to the left.

You’ve got to be kidding me. I would not allow him to look after any child of my family, after his filthy novel _Those Who Trespass_, and his bullying “falafel” phone sex with employees. He is a degenerate, lying, hypocrite, much like Klintoon.

“The actual quote is ‘Homosexuals are the modern day dogs in the manger.’”

Can’t understand why this comment is objectionable. Are we supposed to stop using commonly-used metaphors simply becasue O’Really and his posse at FNC can’t understand English?

O’Reilly owes Free Republic an apology. He doesn’t have a clue what Free Republic is about.

No, Fox News Channel owes FR an apology. He and his staff are employees of FNC. FNC condones such behavior.

I'm glad people are finally seening FNC for what it is. A lot of FReepers were disturbed by Captain Mascara, aka Shepard Smith, when he was practically exploiting the families of Israeli soldiers that had been kidnapped a while back - it was disgusting and made a lot of us sick. It was like a game for him to come up with variations of "if your loved one dies, how are you going to feel". It was horrible, and those poor people probably thought the media exposure would help them until he started interviewing them.

The more outrageous a comment, the more likely the person has just signed up on FR. I have seen some nasty noob posts in the last 2 weeks and have been pointing this out in the forum or hitting the abuse button.

It’s a shame that you weren’t more aggressive to O’Reilly. O’Reilly should practice what he preaches. He is a total lapdog when The Rev Sharpton (hate monger) appears on his show. I want to throw up.

After reviewing the posts in question, and given the huge amount of posts on FreeRepublic, I would say that Bill O’Reilly owes you a huge apology.

I first came here in search of the Iraq translated documents and then sort of stuck around because this is a very unique place. I have found very little cussing — which is an oddity on the Internet — and everyone has fun and is quite knowledgeable on many varied subjects. I also love the format of this place in that articles are posted and discussed — as opposed to some chat forum.

FreeRepublic also exposes me to many of the wonderful military families that make up the backbone of this fine country and for that I am grateful.

Bill O’Reilly owes you an apology. If he is as principled a man as he portrays himself to be... then an apology should be forthcoming.

kristinn, I saw the interview and thought you did a great job. My husband got very upset when he saw O'Reilly trying to make an argument regarding the "moral equivalency" of FR and Daily Kos. He said that many of the people at Kos are professional writers and political operatives, self-interested and with an ax to grind, while the folks at FR are just your average every day people engaging in free speech. This is not an "apples-to-apples" comparison, so I don't know how you get "moral equivalency" out of it.

I find Bill O'Reilly increasingly irritating...and shallow.

Agreed. During the interview he says that DailyKos is, and I quote him, “”Far..FAR worse...just vile””
