UK women 'least likely to care what men think'

Russian women are more worried about a man's seal of approval

Frank Sinatra advised in the song Wives and Lovers: "Don't send him off, with your hair still in curlers. You may not see him again."

However, it seems that British women couldn't care less after a survey showed they are the least likely to put effort into their appearance for the sake of men.

They have the lowest levels of concern in the world for what husbands, boyfriends and other male observers might think, with only 51 per cent caring whether men liked their appearance, the study said.

Japanese women were second bottom with 53 per cent followed by Americans at 56 per cent.

Indian, Spanish and Korean women were far more worried about having a man's seal of approval, but it was Russia which topped the poll of 10,000 women, with 77 per cent saying that they cared what their men thought.

Janet Saunders, of Clinique, the cosmetics company which commissioned the study, said: "British women like to feel confident and beautiful for their own pleasure and take pride in their outward appearance." Susan Quilliam, a relationship psychologist said: "It's a delicate balance. It's a positive thing in an equal relationship to reference the other person's tastes and preferences sometimes."

The survey also showed, that Britons are among the keenest on cosmetic surgery. Thirty five per cent of British women said they have gone, or are willing to go, under the knife for beauty.

Only Korean women were more likely to consider surgical enhancement, while just three per cent of Indian women condone it.

The survey also asked which of the 12 countries polled had the most beautiful women. Although most found their country's own women the best looking, Britons rated Italian and Indian women more beautiful than themselves.

“We’ll then you’re avoiding reality, with an unattractive flair.”

Uh, okay. Now I am clueless. What are you talking about? My commercials comment?

Russian women are more desperate so they consider themselves a commodity. They want someone to pay for their keep and ideally citizenship. The next step is to marry for citizenship, have a baby and divorce the father. Support money gives them the financial freedom they truly crave. The child is the bartering chip.

NoMarriage.com gets validated almost daily. It is a crass and vulgar site yet the truths there are almost laughable because they are so dead on right.

Speaking of which I’m about to turn on TBS and watch Seinfeld or Everyone Love Raymond. There will be a commercial there about an unattractive, overweight bartender using a broom as a metaphor for a man rejecting it because “women today want it all...looks, personality, performance.” Give me a break. Most women I know, even attractive ones are desperate for a husband.

Not to get sidetracked, but...

If you're Italian, can you translate this?:

"Donna che piange, uomo che giura, cavallo che suda, tutta impostura."

A woman who cries, a man who swears, a horse that sweats, all impostura.

What does 'impostura' mean? I can't find it in any online English-Italian translator.

Asian women are human calculators. They simply hide it. They also want U.S. citizenship ... .

All your lovely arguments are answered on that “woman hating” website (the first one) linked from post # 32.

You can also throw in a comment about some stupid advertisement when you have no comment to add to a conversation.

If you don't see this social trend, good luck to you.

The survey also showed, that Britons are among the keenest on cosmetic surgery.

That proves that the title of the thread isn't true.

One time MZ, I’m not making this up, a bunch of normally nice conservative males on a thread on which I often participated, got into a group male bash of me that was so terrible you wouldn’t believe.

One of those very nice guys actually posted MY PICTURE ON THE THREAD!

Now understand that my picture is readily available on my Blog which is in my sig line so it’s not like no one’s ever seen it. But it shows how men are into looks so much that it becomes necessary to show other men what you look like that they may decide if you’ve got a right to be read. Or even to live, for that matter, based on your looks.

I’ve never met a man on FreeRepublic that I wouldn’t like in person. But put a thread up about women and soon enough even the nicest become neanderthals. I could point you to threads that will shock you but hey, I moved on.

There’s a couple of other females busy blasting back on this particular thread but I must warn, this is not often the case. Women are notorious for not defending themselves.

I’ve seen lots of distasteful things which have nothing to do with the discussion at hand; but I don’t throw them in out of desperation. This act of yours showed pathetic weakness in your ability to debate.

...

BTW: You made an insulting arrogant comment a couple of posts ago, so I’d rather sever this unworthy banter, and I’d rather not discuss anything else with you.

Thank you.

” We’re talking about the unattractiveness of American women. Who are so unladylike they don’t have a problem with commercials about tampons with wings, or strings or blue water or whatever is the new trend. Class up.”

Wait a sec. I’m a fan of 1940’s culture. An era most consider the epitome of class - in very difficult times no less. If you read through 1940’s magazines you see all kinds of ads for weird feminine problems. It’s nothing new.

I think mail order brides are sick and I have more respect for FR women than any other.

I’m saying the days of unattractive men hating women for disliking them seem over to me. Young women today are very unattractive; in general. Brittney Spears, Lohan, Hilton. Example, went to a quaint Georgetown bistro a few weeks ago and coeds were yelling and cursing like sailors. It seemed so typical.

If you are right, then I am wrong; albeit disappointed as I've never seen it, especially with the frequency I see now.

How about daily commercials talking about jock itch in detail? Yum!
