Russia has invited a Hamas delegation to visit Moscow in the next few days, a senior Hamas official said Wednesday, just a day after Russia publicly backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The announcement by Hamas lawmaker Khalil al-Haya came a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin told Abbas in Moscow that he is the "legitimate leader of the Palestinian people."
But, according to the AP, the Russian Foreign Ministry said it had no information on a visit by Hamas officials.
According to Al-Haya, the Russian government had officially invited a Hamas delegation led by Khaled Mashaal, the movement's exiled leader, who is based in Damascus. Al-Haya would not specify the date, saying only it would be "in the coming days."
So....what the Russkies are playting footsie with a democratcially elected government (Hamas)? Isn’t that perfectly in line with the Bush Doctrine?
