I taped a segment on the O'Reilly Factor for airing tonight to defend Free Republic against charges that it is a hate site. The segment will air in the 'D block' around 8:35 p.m. EDT and rerun at 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. EDT.

Rather than tell how it went, I'll leave it for folks to watch and decide for themselves. I hope I did right by FR.

We'll be having company tonight as some of Bill O'Reilly's two million-plus viewers check out FR for themselves. So please bear that in mind as you comment tonight. The Daily Kos is waging a very nasty personal campaign of retribution against O'Reilly. No sense in us piling on. Let's use this as an opportunity to show people why FR is the best conservative site on the web.

Any moron could come on to FR make a name like "RightWing...." and then write something nasty and vile trying to make the site look bad.

I wonder how much O’Reilly really hangs around FR. I would guess not often, after witnessing the hit job he did on FR.

I would imagine O'Reilly has at least one staff member watching FR as well as other well informed sites where news breaks and is vetted for truth and error as it is on FR.

He and all of the other prominent TV/Radio hosts...Rush (used to actually post here), Hannity,Drudge etc watch FR religiously.

Most of them don't credit FR, it would be too embarrassing for them. Plus they have to be "first"

The other day Drudge put on his front page an article posted on FR, and he thought it was a current article but it was a year or so old.

He was so anxious to be the "first" to put it out there that he didn't look close enough at the date. He removed it after a few minutes. Busted. LOL

Saw it Kristinn. You did fine. Bill tries to intimidate everyone because people think he has the backing of the conservative movement. I think he did at one time.

Remember, you represent millions...a very large amount of people. Someone needs to let some air out of Bill's authoritarian balloon if he continues to cherry pick a few bad posts out of millions to represent FR. If he leaves it at that then it would be fair to label his comments as disingenuous.

O’Reilly has said many times he doesn’t even know how to start a computer and never has used one So who ever is doing his research is feeding him a bunch of BS or is working for the DNC. O’Reilly owes FR an apology.

Google search is very good at picking up quotes on FreeRepublic and no such quote exists stating "I Hate Blacks" was found from any posts...

If O’R spent any time reading the threads on this site he would see that, yes ,an obscene remark is made now and then but it is pulled rather quickly and the space where the remark was made states that it was pulled. There is some flame throwing on some links and most of us just read the articles that appeal to us. And there are lurkers ( I wonder if O’R knows what a lurker is) and there are trolls to be sure. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are conservative talk show personalities who read these posts too. It will be interesting to hear remarks on Talk radio tomorrow.

If O’R really spent any time reviewing many of the different kinds of threads on this site, he would find that the Freepers are by an large, a group of folks who when chips are down help each other too! Bet his mail bag will be full tomorrow!

You have to be a “premium member” to use or even view the forum there, and it costs money. This is the first time I’ve been to O’reilly’s site, and it will be the last. Amazing that with the money that FNC brings in, they have to make visitors pay before they can get to a discussion board to use, while FR is a free site, and does a super job at moderating our forums.

I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but... on his TV show today, he read off a laundry list of ridiculous "hate" statements like "I hate blacks," "Hillary should be assassinated" and "homosexuals are dogs" that he said he personally found on Free Republic and claims that they were posted here today.

I do not believe that. I doubt that he personally logged on to FR and I doubt he found any such thing posted here today.

Who knows what we may have missed and is buried deep in our archives of millions of posts, but our readers do a pretty good job of alerting us to anything out of bounds that is posted and we pull it. Also, one of our readers found a couple of the quotes he alleges, and if they are the ones O'Reilly is complaining about, he took them way out of context. They were simply quotes in the articles posted not statements posted by FReepers.

As soon as he provides me a list of the alleged posts and their URLs, I'll believe him. If he doesn't... then... well, guess he'll deserve to be known as what he is.
