Republican Fred Thompson has faced a series of bumps in his preliminary campaign, casting doubt on the strength of his would-be candidacy and raising questions about his potential for success.
Despite the difficulties, the "Law & Order" actor and former Tennessee senator continues to post strong marks in national surveys and early primary state polls five months before voting begins. But his transformation from a man simply flirting with a bid to one on the brink of an official candidacy has been far from smooth the past few months.
His challenge: living up to the hopes of dispirited Republicans searching for a conservative to rally around in the wide-open race.
"The expectation levels are sky high right now, so that means if you don't meet them financially, you don't meet them organizationally and you don't meet them message-wise, you're in trouble," said Joe Gaylord, a Republican consultant close to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who also may enter the GOP race.

And I've been trying to engage you in a discussion instead of the usual one-upmanship and name calling. I figured your woodshed episode last evening was enough. Time to see if things could be brought back around.
Well? There are far larger issues confronting us than our own egos. Aren't there??
Yes it get old, yet I have not complained to Jimrob, nor have I, like many have, insisted that fredheads and duncanistas can’t cross pollinate the threads. Nor do I worry about the name calling, despite its repetitive drudgery. I welcome the debate, obviously, or I would not post “controversial” threads. Alas, enough people, including the boss, did not want that to continue, so it won’t.
Yes, the woodshed that should have been directed at both sides, frankly. But that is not my call to make.
“Personally, id love to carry it on,...”
That says it all, sadly.

Yes, we have the country to worry about. I think we are on a very similar page in that regard.
When you get falsely called a liar, than you would too, I assume.
Not all of the charges levied against Mr. Thompson have been true, and regrettably, more than one anti-Thompson poster has insisted on repeating charges proven false long after having been informed that they’re false.
I don’t know specifically whether you fall into that category, but if you do, then the charge against you may be fair.
What I HAVE noticed is that your conduct on these threads has made me feel hostile toward a candidate whom I once supported, and whom I would want to support again, should Mr. Thompson's candidacy falter.
As I've said elsewhere, should Mr. Thompson's candidacy falter, I will do my best not to hold your behavior against Mr. Hunter.
But it will be work.

And thankfully, I don’t hold Fred responsible for the obfuscating and false charges against freepers by fredheads.
It’s YOU I see posting scurrilous hit pieces like this piece of cr@p article.
If you’re going to forage in the manure, don’t be surprised if people tell you that you don’t smell so good anymore.

I did not even read the article. Read my first comment. I said its going to be bumpy, like it has been on FR.
And if you think this is scurrilous, calling out what is plainly obvious to most non fredheads, that he’s had a rough month, than I don’t know what to tell you. Might it be exaggerated? I suppose. But there are many staunch conservatives here, myself included, that will say he’s stunk up the joint lately. It’s opinion, weighted on our individual biases.
I tried the route of quoting Fred in arguments ranging from his wanting to ditch the GOP platform, to his own words on abortion in the 1990s. That gets no better reaction than MSM “hit pieces” frankly. But it does generate lots of heat. Anyhow, you’ll miss those 200 post threads on Fred anyway. Cheers.
Hey, I seem to remember you saying the same thing about Rudy....Oh wait, the old news argument is only forbidden regarding Fred. My mistake.
Good argument there, ace. Hunter will be happy to Know that. ROFL.
FWIW, I've never complained to Jimrob, nor have I ever suggested segregation between fredheads, duncanistas, ronettes, whoever. I'm for civility and ideas. But too often the threads descend into name calling. And yes, I've name called, but only in response.
I don't believe 'the boss' wants no controversial threads. What I do believe, reading his remarks to you, is that he wants the acrimony to end. And he sees you as an instigator. It's not the thread content, it's the use of it.
Think about it some.
p.s. My link to JR is solely an alert because I've referred to him in this post. Don't take it wrongly.
He likes things smooth, easy, and effortless.
Heaven help us if he becomes president.
By the way, hear you guys picked up another point...
Oh, that’s pointer, must have been a Office Depot run...
Ok, who has the “Aw Jeez” gif..
I know, Fred sucks, we got it already...
You’re a few hours behind the curve there...
