Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS) is a political term coined by the American conservative[1] political columnist Charles Krauthammer, a Harvard-trained former psychiatrist, in a 2003 column.[2] It refers to a purported tendency by some to blame President George W. Bush for matters for which he is not responsible. The term has been used in newspaper columns and editorials, on talk radio and FOX News, and in the conservative Blogosphere.
Krauthammer defined BDS as “the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidencynaythe very existence of George W. Bush”.[2] The term reflects a belief that some criticisms of President Bushfor example, a description of President Bush as the greatest current threat to American livesare of emotional origins rather than based on facts or logic.[3]
