A number of years ago I found myself in a complete empty nest situation. I started renting foreign films and became addicted. For me, I have to be alone to watch a film with subtitles. Try Wild Strawberries. Or Manon of the Springs. Most definitely, try Pele the Conquerer with Max Van Sydow.

One of my favorites too.

“Pele the Conquerer” was made by the Danish filmmaker Bille August.

I’m with leadpenny. There are so many good foreign films and although these aren’t Bergman, Jean De Florette and Manon of the Spring would be a great place to start. See Jean De Florette first, as Manon of the Spring is the sequel to Jean De Florette.

Have you ever seen Babette's Feast? Truly a wonderful film! I can't remember if it's Norwegian, Swedish, or Dane, but it's in the language with English subtitles.
