Sorry to hear that. I was too young for the "Tomorrow Show", but was a big fan of his CNBC show. He should have stayed on said network instead of trying to compete with Conan.

Some would mock him as a simpleton, but my Aunt briefly worked for him and said that it was NOT the case. Just as Brian Lamb often asks simple questions to bring the interviewee down to earth, so did Tom.

Now I wonder what Dick Cavett is doing...

RIP Tom,

I always liked him, and enjoyed his show whenever I got a chance to catch it.

Smart, lively character, witty, with a great sense of humor and a laugh to go with it.

“Some would mock him as a simpleton...”

Never heard him referred to as such. Since you are too young to know of him, you are just guessing. Ackroyd parodied him, not mocked.

Did they ever figure out the color of his hair?

I first heard the phrase "don't flatter yourself" from Tom Snyder. He was interviewing some bull dyke from NOW and she was ranting about Playboy and Penthouse magazines. She was saying that when men look at those magazines that they will then look at all women and lust for them automatically. Synder then asks her if she thinks that since he was looking at the magazine right then, if she thought that he wanted her sexually? She replied, "that's right Tom..." Snyder replied: "Don't flatter yourself, honey..."

The timing was perfect!

Condolences to Tom Snyder’s family and friends. I really enjoyed his interviews, sense of humor and easygoing style.

I used to stay up late as a kid to watch his show. He’ll be missed. Thoroughly likable man. RIP, Tom.

He had that uncommon combination of demeanor and sense of humor that regularly cracked up the crew.

color of his hair?

Uh, black & white? LOL

In this early shot of him at his first TV News Anchor job, he looks a bit like that guy who was Couric's co-host on that morning show, you know, whatshisname, except Snyder is better looking (not that I have a man-crush on him or anything).

I loved his late night show. I vaguely remember the Plasmatics episode but loved when he had John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) at the time he’d left the Pistols and formed PiL. Snyder was just quietly seething and smoking. Both he and his cigarrette were doing a pretty intense burn. I assume it was bleeped (I don’t remember) but he chided John with “you’re making a f******* fool of yourself” at a commercial break.

He was an original, good, better than many, better than Cavett, I think, but his mannerisms, which he never tried to hide, invited a parody, and Aykroyd did a better Snyder than Snyder himself, as noted above.

I remember Snyder from the early 70’s when he was a news man for KNBC in LA.

Yep...and he loved to tease Kelly Lange who was the weather lady in those days.

By the way - welcome to FR!

RIP.

I am a young person and only happened to watch his show when I was in late middle school or so (I taped it), but I loved it.

He was so interesting and had a great way of telling stories.

Tom was great.

I mean his mid-90s show on CBS...that is the show I watched, not the original 70s one, as I was born in 1983...

But anyway, I loved his mid-90s show. It was great the way he could just turn an interview into conversation. He was truly an artist and inspiring the way he could weave his stories and make people feel so comfortable.

Great man, and I don’t care how liberal he was.

When I lived In LA, I really enjoyed Tom. He had a great sense of humopr and never appeared to think he walked on water like so many of the “anchors” there appear.

I remember a running gag that David Letterman used to do when he was still on NBC in the former Tommorow slot. He'd have the head of NBC (Wright?) appear occasionally, and he'd keep referring to Letterman as "Tom" whenever they talked.

When Snyder hosted a syndicated radio show in the early 90’s, he said some conservative things. I’ve heard him criticize the liberal claim that Republican tax cuts benefit the rich. He referred to a Jesse Jackson visit to LA shortly after the 1992 riots as “adding fuel to the fire” and he even thought the cops who beat Rodney King were treated unfairly. Snyder also spoke fondly of Rush Limbaugh who he called “Uncle Rush.”
