Agreed - spend some time in a shopping mall just watching people go by! Americans look like trailer trash walking around, not caring how they look, what they say, or how they act! It’s not just about dress code, ever see how badly behaved children are now? How about some grown ups too? I personally think that the PR dept could have phrased this in a less “dictatorial” frame, but understand and appreciate that the purpose is to dignify a national treasure. They’re not asking for gowns and tuxes here!
You’re right, they could have phrased it a little better but like you say, they’re not asking for anything unreasonable. A person can still dress casually, be comfortable and meet the dress code. The talk of slippery slope, the sky is falling and I always dress in shorts and T shirt are lame excuses, IMO.
