MI5 'is keeping bomber alive'
Scotland on Sunday @ Scotsman.com ^ | Sunday, 29th July 2007 | RICHARD ELIAS

SEVERELY burned Glasgow Airport attack suspect Kafeel Ahmed is being kept alive on the orders of MI5, senior police sources have told Scotland on Sunday.

Ahmed has third degree burns to 90% of his body and virtually no chance of surviving but insiders claim the security services are keeping him alive to avoid a backlash from radical Muslims.

The 27-year-old doctor is on life support at Glasgow Royal Infirmary but two separate police sources - as well as medical staff - claim the decision to keep him alive has more to do with politics than clinical judgment.

One insider estimated the combined cost of round-the-clock security and medical treatment for Ahmed for the month since the attack had reached £150,000.

But Paul Martin, Labour's justice spokesman, said: "So many times, people seem to be more interested in the civil liberties of the individual rather than those of the majority. There were hundreds of people at the airport that day, what about their civil liberties?"

Isn't that the truth?

Glasgow human rights lawyer Amar Anwar said: “It is barbaric that we are stooping to such levels against this individual, no matter how heinous the crimes he is accused of committing.”

Another leading human rights lawyer, John Scott, said: “It is quite wrong for anyone to be dealt with differently medically because of who they are or what they are said to have done. It is entirely inappropriate to keep anyone alive for political reasons.”

Aren’t doctors supposed to fight FOR the life of their patient? And the Brit equivalent of the ACLU fight to let him die.

If he had been refused treatment because of the heinousness of his crime can you imagine the outcry?

Non-citizens have no civil liberties. Civil liberties are granted by the government to citizens, and never to non-citizens. Human rights, on the other hand, belong intrinsically to all human persons. But even those rights are conditional on reciprocally observing the rights of others. Terrorists don't. And so they lose all their rights.

I cannot imagine torture being worse than this. Mercy killing would be wrong and praying for him to die would be also. Sorry Achmed.

"keeping him alive to avoid a backlash from radical Muslims."

The Brits have lost their minds!

Let the bastard die.....and if the "radical Muslims" act out -- kill them too.

By definition -- one can NEVER satisfy or negotiate with a "radical Muslim"....

Exactly. He needs to be kept alive for as long as possible to extract all sorts of information he has. Britain is thick with Islamic sleeper cells, and this man’s sorry life must only be looked at as a tool to expose them. Once all information is used, make him apologise, and then let him die... slowly. These are animals that have to be shown no mercy.

I'll sip three fingers of Oban to support this view, neat, of course. Yummy!

Do you really believe they’re keeping him a live because they fear a “backlash”? Yeah, right. They need to interrogate this guy for as long as possible. Also, keeping him in constant agony is a nice side benefit.

From the article I don’t think he’s talking. He’s in a coma.

I’m curious do they mean that he’s really brain dead, but they’re keeping him on life support to keep from announcing his death and thereby stir up the moslem population or are they really suggesting he’s so badly injured that he should just be allowed to die?

Darn, I was hoping they were doing it to keep him in a constant state of pain.

It might just be me, but if I had sworn enemies who started a fight, the last thing I would worry about is hurting their delicate sensibilities.

I can’t disagree that it is Barbaric to keep this man alive which why we should.

If this man survives and regains consciousness the rest of his life will be constant pain.

With scarring over ninety percent of his body he will be crippled, every movement of his body will be a fresh experience in pain.

If his eyes have survived he will not be able to go out in public with out experiencing the looks of pity and/or revulsion on the faces of his fellow human beings.

He will go through decades of surgeries and convalescences as doctors try to restore movement to his mangled limbs.

He will pray for death every day for the rest of his life.

I can not think of a more just punishment for what this man attempted to do.

Well stated. Should be said repeatedly until everyone has a good understanding of Justice 101.

But you left out the best part...

Remember, this man did what he did because his certainty that he'd gain a sexual reward in paradise motivated his action.

Remember, the 911 attackers shaved the hair from their bodies, shaved extra-closely, etc., in eager anticipation of their first meeting with their dates....

So, by keeping him alive, if he is conscious, he can not only be interrogated, not only tortured (passively!) while the UK can claim they're "helping" him (and this is fantastic, it's the only way it could have worked out this way--great, ain't it?), but the terrorist lives with the knowledge that no amount of hair-plucking, combing, or deoderant will cover up their HORRIBLE DISFIGURATION IN THE AFTERLIFE.

Say "goodbye, virgins!"
