Many owners of older TV sets who still receive free, over-the-air broadcasts are unaware that their sets will no longer function after Feb. 17, 2009 without a settop converter, lawmakers observed at a Washington D.C. hearing on Thursday.
I thought digital signals would just go out, rather than fade.
That would be HNIC, not HNOC - Hockey Night In Canada!
It’s probably 70+% of my TV time.
At one time those colored covers were three colors. Blue accross the top third, red accross the middle, and green accross the middle. I think the idea was to make the sky blue, the grass green, and the people in the middle kinda flesh colored. It mostly only worked on westerns. Obviously, any indoor shots or city shots were not compatible with the grass and sky arrangement.
What would do this country a world of good, is if BUSH would end the war on welfare and put every american to work before we consider EVER importing any kind of labor.
I had a directional antenna once, mounted on a tall pole. It was motorized so I could point it in any direction. That antenna would pick up stuff over 100 miles away.
You mean my TV set that I never turn on will still work as long as my hubby continues to pay the monthly cable bill that gives us 50+ stations that I never watch because it's such a wasteland? What a relief to hear that I won't be forced to buy a new set that I wouldn't watch either! LOL
I believe it is a noise-making device.
No problem here, I don’t have a TV set of any flavor.
WENN is the provider/source of news for IMdB.
So you remember, too? My kids just laugh...
How different life is now.
Did you tell them about how TV screens used to be almost round, not very square. And you had to wait a minute for it to warm up before the picture came in?
When I was a kid I had a crappy TV I would kick the crap out it because because of the rabbit ears and the static.
The dam thing never broke and always came on for me. Must have been a well made model.
“Blue across the top third, red accross the middle, and green accross the middle.”
I can’t believe you remember where the colors were. Thanks!
I’ll remember that when I tell my stories of TV’s and also how we had to walk three miles to school in the snow. (LOL! I really did.)

Tell me...what the hell does digital TV have to do with globalism???
The boxes will be no more expensive than a cheap VCR, don’t believe the hysteria.
Unless you’ll need a new TV by then. ALL new TV’s now, even the < $200 ones, have digital tuners in them.
Actually I made a mistake. It was supposed to say “green accross the bottom third”.
It kinda worked with a semi close up of two cowboys talking to eachother. The sky was blue, the grass was green, and their faces were pinkish. But if it was a wide angle shot of them on horsback, well then the sky was blue, the grass was green, and the cowboys wore pink cloths and rode pink horses.
Hell, I threw out my TV 4 years ago, don’t miss it and will never own another one. It’s just junk stuff. I buy stuff I want to watch on DVD and play them on the computer.
Black AND White? Damn. I don't even have the settop converter yet to add white to my black screen.
It's more commonly known as a "telescreen".
