At first glance I thought this said gays rank Harry Reid tops.
But that really didn’t make sense to me, as I always figured he was a bottom.

Reed College, aka Weed College. Along with Evergreen State, two universities where the Summer of Love (really the Summer of People who Don’t Bathe), has been eternal. Is it any surprize that both are in the PacNorthwest?

You're a MAN who went to Vassar and admit to it? ;-)

Don't worry, I almost attended Sarah Lawrence, but my father put the kibbosh on that (despite the fact that I had a scholarship there).

How do they know? Did they walk through the men’s restrooms at every college in America and count the “glory holes”?

John Reed, the school's namesake, was a communist and is buried a the Kremlin. He was also the figure played in the movie, 'Reds.'

Nice company to hang out with.

It's true that the school has the Reed namesake. But it wasn't named in honor of this commie.

According to Wikipedia :

" Reed is named for Oregon pioneers Simeon Gannett Reed and Amanda Reed.[1]. Simeon was an entrepreneur in trade on the Columbia River; in his will he suggested that his wife could "devote some portion of my estate to benevolent objects, or to the cultivation, illustration, or development of the fine arts in the city of Portland, or to some other suitable purpose, which shall be of permanent value and contribute to the beauty of the city and to the intelligence, prosperity, and happiness of the inhabitants....
Although it holds a reputation for the anti-authoritarian leanings of its students (and sometimes its faculty), the only connection between Reed College and the journalist John Reed is the similarity of their names and the fact that both were native to Portland. ".

I personally think that it would be worthwhile to get your undergrad degree in colleges like these that provide solid moral grounding as well as excellent education. After that, then you can go to graduate school in any of the bigger, more well known schools if you wish.

I don't entirely disagree. I went to the Virginia Military Institute and have several University of California graduate degrees, but that was a long time ago before VMI's reputation suffered from the unpopularity of the Vietnam War. One of my daughters went to a small but well-regarded academically, religiously-affiliated midwestern liberal arts college which has a higher academic ranking than Grove City. The other daughter is at a major private university in the Chicago area.

Our approach with our daughters was to avoid the very radical universities and liberal arts colleges in the Northeast, but to stick with best schools in either the Midwest or South. Both of them have been happy with their choices and the generally more conservative atmosphere of their schools, without the schools being considered "conservative colleges".

Daughter #2 is at Northwestern and loves the Chicago area - wants to do grad school at either NU or Chicago. Daughter #1 is now working in Minneapolis, and plans to go to business school in a few years, with NU and Chicago among her top choices.

Campus ‘gay point average’ : Book strives to tell students which schools are welcoming

The article says in part :

“Since 1992, the Princeton Review, has ranked the 20 schools that it considers the most and the least ``gay community accepted.” This year, the review ranked New York University as most gay friendly and Notre Dame as most inhospitable.

Steele points out that the Review’s gay-friendly rankings are based on student opinion, while his guide is based on quantifiable data.

Harriet Brand, spokeswoman for the Review, said the survey of 115,000 students is more compelling because students offer a more accurate, ground-level gauge of a campus’s climate.”

Colleges to remove from my list-of-colleges-my-grandchildren-might-attend!

According to the New York Times, This is the book to consult as to which colleges are mot gay friendly ( might be available in your local library ) :

The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students” (Alyson Books) profiles 100 of the country’s “best campuses” for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, and it arrives at a time when gay students are more vocal and visible.

“It’s looking more like half or most gay and lesbian Americans are coming out before they get to college,” said Bruce Steele, the guide’s editor in chief. “Unlike in the past, the experience they will have on a campus is something they can think about before they go to college.”
