Drug smuggler had passes to enter U.S.
Houston Chronicle Washington Bureau ^ | July 26, 2007 | MICHELLE MITTELSTADT

WASHINGTON — The Mexican drug smuggler involved in the controversial prosecution of two Border Patrol agents was granted six border crossing passes to enter the U.S. unescorted — including two after he was linked by federal law enforcement to a million-dollar marijuana payload.

Copies of the six crossing cards, which in some cases were good for months at a time, were released Wednesday by five House Republicans who have been harshly critical of federal prosecutors for using an admitted drug trafficker to prosecute Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean...

But U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton said Wednesday night that Osvaldo Aldrete Davila was not, in fact, permitted to travel unescorted into the U.S. after word surfaced that he may have been involved with a subsequent drug shipment...

"It's always frustrating when people are calling you names and spreading misinformation in a very public setting when there's an ongoing investigation," Sutton said. "Of course I'm being criticized because I haven't put Aldrete in prison yet. And of course, the reason he's not in prison is because the two agents, instead of doing their job, shot at him 15 times, hit him, lied about it, covered it up and filed a false report..."

Aldrete, given immunity from prosecution for running the drug load, was the star witness in prosecutors' case against the agents. He was given crossing documents so he could enter the U.S. to consult with prosecutors, Sutton said...

The documents obtained by Rohrabacher show a crossing permit was issued two days after the DEA filed a report saying Aldrete had been fingered by the stash house owner as the driver of the second marijuana load. A sixth crossing card for Aldrete was obtained in January 2006.

"The decision-making was unconscionable," said Rohrabacher...

Something is extremely stinky here. Sutton seems to be having a little trouble with the truth.

Read the FReepers supporting Sutton on this related thread.

It was getting quite nauseating.

I hate to say it, but I’m starting to think that Sutton is just the tip of an iceberg that goes all the way into the White House. I would doubt that the President is directly involved, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that some of his staff were over-zealously implementing his open borders objectives. Unfortunately, they had to work through a dumbski like Sutton who didn’t understand rational limits.

This thing is going to blow up before it’s over.

Sutton keeps insisting they filed false reports.

Otherwise I have heard he blamed them for filing no report.

At any rate, 11 and 12 years is insane for a contretemps over report-filing.

I read somewhere that they didn't file a report because their supervisor came on sight and told them he would file it, and he gave them the order to pick up shell casings, etc.

I heard the Laura Ingraham yesterday show with a sub for her, who interviewed two jurors who both said if they had been given all the information during the trial, they would have voted differently. They felt they were manipulated by Sutton and the judge, and said it made them sick now to know all they've learned since.

The only thing missing is the payola, or bank account number(s) where the payola is hidden. And yes this goes up the ladder. Money from drug dealers to prosecutors would be nothing new, but up the chain and proof would be. I doubt not the proof is out there somewhere. But when one goes a hunting, be certain your firearms are loaded for bear. Many a bear hides in those woods, protecting turf, for the dealer. And when the bear is envolved, the likelyhood of the truth being sifted from the ground is dangerous, and troublesome. And I am understating the problems(s).

Sutton should be fired or resign. The border patrol agents should be freed immediately.

Ahhh, I get it now Mr. Sutton. A foreign drug runner needs to be caught at least twice before you revoke his freedom to travel into America unescorted. Sutton's ship is sinking and it looks like he's going down with it. I look for Bush to pardon Compean and Ramos just before Sutton's demise, in an attempt to save him. However, if Sutton wiggles free from this debauchery of 'justice', Bush will quickly forget about Ramos and Compean and let them rot.

Let me get this straight. In return for testifying for the proecution the key witness receives a “get out jail free card” that allows him to continue smuggling dope into the USA with impunity. And the jury isn’t allowed to hear anything about it. Can you say “railroad”?

Open borders are just a bonus for the politicians who want globalization.

IMHO, the main reason the feds help these dealers cross the borders is because an amazing amount of our economy is now based on the criminalization of drugs.

Police, prisons, councilors, doctors.....and don't forget the [$ching$] asset forfeiture laws.

Sutton attributed the decision to higher-ups: "The Justice Department makes decisions about when U.S. attorneys go in front of Congress."

ERRRRR....., Isn't that Alberto! Doesn't he work for GWB?

Nothing to see here. Move along..........

Who, in this case it more and more appears, was just following orders from on high.
